Cornell vs Wesleyan vs Colgate (Computer Science)

I am so confused right now! Because I am an international student, and do not have the chance to visit them, I am heavily relying on CC.

My major is CS, and I do want to get the best possible education. I can be smart and competitive enough. But that doesn't mean I want unfriendly, cut-throat competitiveness. I might have a hard time trying to keep up with other geniuses, and end up giving up or something.

Financial aid is okay for me, so it should not be a factor. And location doesn't matter to me. It could be either urban or suburban.

I want classmates who will be my all-life friends, not enemies. I crave for the environment in which students work together.

If ranked in prestige and CS curricula, Cornell will be the first one without question. And I am kind of leaning towards Cornell. But people are telling me the environment there is harsh and unfriendly. And that there is a lot of pressure.

If the fact above is untrue, I will definitely go to Cornell.

So help me and tell me your opinions! Thanks!

Cornell is definitely cut throat. And the workload is really bad. Ithaca is a really really boring town too. (But location doesn't matter, right?).

But yes, based on academics for CS, Cornell would be the most logical choice.

Post this in the Cornell forum. Its best to take opinions from people who are currently studying there.

I would say Colgate. Not because I am going to attend but from what you want.

Cornell is cut throat. Everyone is out outdo the other chap.

Just have a look at Colgate traditions - all based on friendship. Its like everyone cares. The Dean is so wonderful that he gave up his tickets to a speech to another student who really wanted to attend. Students are really friendly.

Cornell comes nowhere near to Colgate in terms of social aspects. I understand you want great academics but I really wouldnt miss out on social life too.

Wes is VERY 'out there', alternative, quirky and liberal. If that sounds awesome, proceed there. If that doesn't sound like a great place for you, don't allow it to enter your radar, and pick Colgate (Cornell IS very competitive, from what I've heard).
