Cornell Waitlist Class of 2024

i think they will be taking as many people OOS as they can because that means more money for them @FallAutumnLeaf

@newyorkerinCT congrats! What time did you get the email?

Damn I got that email last week as well for CAS, guess it didnā€™t mean anything.

That was really unprofessional of Cornell to send that email to so many waitlisted applicants. They could be under heavy fire for that.

does anyone know if CAS or Cornell in general has regional quotas, so did they mean to say ā€œyouā€™re at the top of our listā€ in XYZ state and if and only if someone nearby you doesnā€™t accept their offer only then will you be accepted? (also, please donā€™t take my rants the wrong way, Iā€™m truly excited for all that got in, but Iā€™m also very confused atm)

Nah I feel you. That was really messed up for getting so many peopleā€™s hopes up.

I agreeā€¦ do you guys think that CAS is done now?

Given that they are reaching out to selected candidates by email, I think they would have written to everybody in the first wave. They are also giving a lot of time to pay deposit going by the email (~2 weeks), so it feels like even if they came back with more, it will not be until later.

I think there is still a fair chance itā€™s not over. It makes no sense that they would sent the email and then reject most of us. If they were going to do that, including the phrase ā€œtop of our waitlistā€ in the email would be completely unnecessary.

I dont know about you guys but I am a little suspicious about CAS coming out today. As of right now, Iā€™ve only seen ONE person admitted off the waitlist from Reddit or CC. It is odd that I canā€™t seem to find any other posts about the CAS waitlist.

Before I get depressed about not getting in, Iā€™m gonna wait for a few more to confirm it was today or that the wave is done with.

itā€™s possible that cas saw an unexpectedly high yield rate which meant less people were admitted off the waitlist. but itā€™s honestly so depressing for them to get my hopes up like that though. i hope they didnā€™t just use ā€œtop of the listā€ to draw in more interested applicants to the pool

ive seen one person on reddit get off for cas and one person on cc get off for cas. Maybe its the same person, maybe it is not. But we should wait for more.

@thejunechild maybeā€¦ but they did begin accepting waitlist applicants before May 1st which doesnā€™t indicate a high yield

But why would anyone fake getting pulled from the waitlist?

I donā€™t think anyone faked it. Maybe that applicant was special. It does seem weird that Cornell would start humec dyson AND cas on the same dayā€¦

all the colleges at cornell operate differently and attract different kinds of students so perhaps the liberal arts college (cas) at Cornell attracted more people this year. very unpredictable : (

To be fair, the letter posted by @newyorkerinCT seems totally legit.

Happy for his kid, and hoping for the best for the rest of us on the ā€œtop of the listā€.

Yeah lol I never said they faked itā€¦

Iā€™d imagine after sending that email to what seemed like a significant number of kids theyā€™d accept more kids off the waitlist or AT LEAST weā€™d hear from more kids

Yeah, I donā€™t see how one person, getting in (who got the email btw) automatically means the email meant nothing. Waitlists are usually read off piecemeal, so thereā€™s no reason to think the ā€œwaveā€ is done, especially considering the fact that, out of the entire forum dedicated to the Class of 2024 Cornell Waitlist, only one user from CAS has been accepted so far. For all any of us know, there could be emails coming in later today, tomorrow or later in the week.

We shouldnā€™t immediately jump to the conclusion that the email was meaningless. Also, itā€™s probably not true that the email was sent to very many people based on this forum alone, which typically attracts a more competitive student (i.e., one more likely to be on the top of the waitlist). For this reason, itā€™s far more likely that this forum represents a disproportionately dense group of email recipients compared to the overall waitlist population.

In short, donā€™t abandon all hope over one person getting into CAS. That doesnā€™t mean anything more than that CAS has started reading off the waitlist in earnest. I know itā€™s agonizing, Iā€™m glued to my phone, refreshing my email every two minutes, and my hopes are astronomical after receiving the email but, we all just have to hang on for a little while longer.
