@jtg920 - hey I got the same call! Congrats! Hoping we’ll hear back tomorrow cause I don’t wanna wait any longer. Did he say it would be an email?
@amherstcornwait - yes, I applied for financial aid. If it’s terrible I will likely decline the offer, but aid from my other schools was pretty bad too so hopefully it won’t come to that.
@hpwang1014 - you should definitely send them your grades lol.
Wow, only 5 spots available in Dyson. That’s a huge yield. I would imagine a high yield in one Cornell college suggests high yields across most if not all Cornell colleges. Given the coronavirus crisis, Cornell’s remote location may have helped move the school to the top of many students’ preferred school list.
@applicants107107 If by “updated” you mean your mid year report, then Cornell already has that. If you’re talking about 3rd quarter grades (or just any grades you’ve gotten since applying), I would definitely have them sent to the school/ao directly.
@hpwang1014 No, I’m pretty sure those 99 are from all schools university-wide. Don’t quote me on that but that’s what I read in a news link posted earlier in this forum.
The 99 are from Cornell University - NYT did not mention the college/branch. That said, the first wave may be a bit delayed due to the unexpected 99 before May 1st. I do think, a surge is coming for many here.
if both of the observed admits from the waitlist were from connecticut, i think it’s safe to assume that either cornell is evaluating waitlist applicants regionally or that this was a coincidence. i highly doubt connecticut or anywhere in new england/east coast is considered an underrepresented area for cornell and i don’t think they lacked students from that region
The 99 was not CAS. It was all of Cornell. From the NY Times:
"At Cornell, admissions officers took 99 students off the wait list last week and extended them offers, said Jonathan Burdick, the school’s vice provost for enrollment. That is a fairly typical number, he said, but the university would usually wait until after May 1 to make that move. ‘We knew we would almost certainly be going to the wait list after today,’ Mr. Burdick said on Friday. ‘So we decided to do it early.’”
FOLLOW UP TO THE NY TIMES ARTICLE: The article appears to be correct in stating that the 99 taken off the Cornell waitlist “is a fairly typical number.” The Number taken off the waitlist for the 2023 Class was 147. See below.
