Cornell Waitlist Class of 2024

@jtg920 - hey I got the same call! Congrats! Hoping we’ll hear back tomorrow cause I don’t wanna wait any longer. Did he say it would be an email?

@amherstcornwait - yes, I applied for financial aid. If it’s terrible I will likely decline the offer, but aid from my other schools was pretty bad too so hopefully it won’t come to that.

@hpwang1014 - you should definitely send them your grades lol.

Wow, only 5 spots available in Dyson. That’s a huge yield. I would imagine a high yield in one Cornell college suggests high yields across most if not all Cornell colleges. Given the coronavirus crisis, Cornell’s remote location may have helped move the school to the top of many students’ preferred school list.

My counselor only uploaded updated grades to common app … Is that enough or do we have to email them directly to the counselor?

@applicants107107 If by “updated” you mean your mid year report, then Cornell already has that. If you’re talking about 3rd quarter grades (or just any grades you’ve gotten since applying), I would definitely have them sent to the school/ao directly.

disagree since CAS took 99 kids before may 1 and then still after everyone committed has been taking more – i think it depends on the college really

I am also a food science major! Thanks for taking one for the team @lightningzoom lol

The 99 before May 1 are all from CAS?

@hpwang1014 No, I’m pretty sure those 99 are from all schools university-wide. Don’t quote me on that but that’s what I read in a news link posted earlier in this forum.

The 99 are from Cornell University - NYT did not mention the college/branch. That said, the first wave may be a bit delayed due to the unexpected 99 before May 1st. I do think, a surge is coming for many here.

@SAYSA, @harry7244, Thank you!

if both of the observed admits from the waitlist were from connecticut, i think it’s safe to assume that either cornell is evaluating waitlist applicants regionally or that this was a coincidence. i highly doubt connecticut or anywhere in new england/east coast is considered an underrepresented area for cornell and i don’t think they lacked students from that region

@jtg920 did you contact your AO prior to their call? I’m wondering if maybe I am not doing enough by not emailing an AO directly…

@ydd777 Yes, he said it would be an email from the admissions office. If not, it might be a letter posted in your admissions portal.

@amherstcornwait I did not apply ED, also he just implied that there would be more after me.

@amherstcornwait Yes, I did apply for financial aid.

Also waiting on CALS. Any news from the call? Also, thanks for taking one for the team!

The 99 was not CAS. It was all of Cornell. From the NY Times:

"At Cornell, admissions officers took 99 students off the wait list last week and extended them offers, said Jonathan Burdick, the school’s vice provost for enrollment. That is a fairly typical number, he said, but the university would usually wait until after May 1 to make that move. ‘We knew we would almost certainly be going to the wait list after today,’ Mr. Burdick said on Friday. ‘So we decided to do it early.’”

FOLLOW UP TO THE NY TIMES ARTICLE: The article appears to be correct in stating that the 99 taken off the Cornell waitlist “is a fairly typical number.” The Number taken off the waitlist for the 2023 Class was 147. See below.

WAITLIST
Number of qualified applicants offered a place on the waitlist 4,948
Number accepting a place on the waitlist 3,362
Number offered fall admission from the waitlist 147

It gives me hope for today considering that both admits are from CT.

Do y’all think the email/call will come around 5pm or earlier today?

@chickennoodlesoupppppp I feel like they are consistently sending any emails out at around 6pm EST so probably watch for an email at that time
