Cornell Waitlist Class of 2025

do you mind sharing what the email said?

Here you go.

Greetings from Cornell CALS. Earlier this week, you should have received word that at this time we are unable to offer you a spot off of our waiting list for the upcoming academic year. However, the admissions committee recognizes your academic talent and potential for success at Cornell CALS and would like to extend to you an opportunity to pursue our Transfer Option (TO) for the xxxx major at CALS as a sophomore in the fall of 2022, after successfully completing one year of study at another college or university.

Although this is not a guarantee of admission, we look forward to working with you on this path to transfer. We understand that you may have additional questions about this opportunity and we encourage you to visit the links below for more information. Should you decide that you would like to pursue a TO to CALS, please submit the TO form below no later than June 30, 2021. Filling out the form below will keep you in touch with the CALS Office of Admissions. You’ll be queued up to receive important updates from us beginning in August of this year (you won’t hear from us before this time), including course information and a guide to making an appointment with one of our admission counselors.

Sincerely,
The CALS Admissions Team

I got the same one. I am confused if this is the transfer options people talk about on this thread

It is the TO.

awesome y"all!! were there any acceptances?

How exactly is the TO option, especially when it’s not guaranteed, different from just applying regularly as an external applicant (someone that didn’t get the TO option)?

i got the TO this morning too, though i was planning on changing my major to public health at my committed school. and of course “You cannot request a change of major to … Global and Public Health”
lol

Still waiting for ILR and haven’t heard anything from Cornell yet, no portal changes since 4/6 but one kid got off from the waitlist a month ago form same school.
Anything else from ILR?

Congratulations to everyone that got the Transfer Option!!!

I didn’t get anything RIP… my major is also global public health so I wonder if that major is even eligible for a regular transfer

what’s your current major?

I got CALS’s TO as well. Really curious whether it is special.

animal science, but I’m already in the process of switching to public health before first semester starts so now I’m not sure what to do. I emailed cals to ask if I’d have to apply as a non-TO candidate or if they’re not allowed to transfer either so guess we’ll see

If I knew this major was so competitive I wouldn’t have applied :,) I just chose a random healthcare major

I think it’s basically guaranteed as long as you adhere to their requirements and follow-ups. They just can’t explicitly say that since there are people who may slack off

same here, idk when we’re gonna get any word from cals! ig nothing today tho :frowning:

I really wonder when HumEc will update. The portal is still the same so it doesn’t look like today. I will be fine with whatever decision, I’m just curious what it will be and when they will make it considering the closures and allocation of the TO from the other colleges.

Edit: Probs won’t post much more so congratulations everyone and I wish all of you every success in whatever you do!

No dilemma really at this point. He goes to the school he committed to, and then he has some choices.

My non-Cornell daughter has a friend in her sorority that was TO and ultimately loved the current school so much she chose not to transfer. Just a few days ago also a parent in the Michigan fb page said her daughter had the TO option to Cornell and is sticking with Michigan. It’s a good dilemma to have as your kid may love where they ended up, or may not and will know it, but they should definitely give it a chance as the TO is not guaranteed if the proper requirements aren’t met and everyone should give another school the chance and not close doors for themselves at that school either.

Congrats!

Yes, this.

Transferring as a normal transfer, especially after having been rejected with the TO is much more competitive and you basically have to start the process all over again.

Well said. Thanks for sharing the TO cases. Indeed, the kids may change their minds once immerse themselves with the committed schools. Nevertheless, it’s doesn’t hurt to have more options.

Definitely not, and if your kid hates their other choice, then they have one foot in the door already at Cornell! In about 6 months (after first semester), I would try to find other students who have done it and see what their experiences are. But make sure he goes in with an open mind in both ends because the last thing you want is for him to have one foot out the door before he’s even started. It could be a great opportunity on both ends. I would even try to join the Cornell parent page and just kind of observe from a distance the goings on and “take notes”. You’ll see and hear some things you like and some things you don’t like but at least you’ll be prepared after watching a cycle of it all.
