Cornell Waitlist Class of 2025

Did you express the will of a transfer option or was it just offered to you?

i’ll copy the email here:

Dear xxxxxx,

You recently received notification from Cornell University indicating that you were placed on our wait list for fall 2021. We will contact you immediately should we have a space to offer you.

We hope this letter conveys our sincere desire to welcome you here in the near future at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. Please make sure to complete the online form at letting us know that you wish to remain on the wait list. The deadline for your waitlist response is April 10.

The selection committee at the Dyson School was very impressed with many facets of your application and recognizes your potential. Therefore, in the event that we are unable to offer you fall 2021 admission, we will be extending you a special Transfer Option for fall 2022. A Transfer Option is an opportunity to study at another institution for a year and then apply to enroll at Cornell as a transfer student. This opportunity is given to a select group of applicants, among the very best we considered this year, but beyond the number of freshmen we can enroll in fall 2021. The Transfer Option will require that you do the following:

  • Enroll as a full-time student for the 2021-22 academic year at another accredited college or university;
  • Complete the following courses with a ‘B’ or better:
    • One college writing/English composition course
    • Microeconomics
    • Calculus I
    • Statistics
  • Earn a 3.5 cumulative grade point average;
  • Remain in good academic and disciplinary standing;
  • Complete and submit a Transfer Option application in spring 2022.

It is also strongly recommended that you complete one Macroeconomics course.

More information will be provided once we confirm that fall 2021 enrollment is no longer a possibility. In no way should this opportunity preclude you from accepting offers from other universities.

We will be in touch with you as soon as we can in May or June, should a space become available for fall 2021 enrollment. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at [dyson_admissions@cornell.edu]

Sincerely,
xxxxx

it was sent around 2 days after decisions came out. it basically guarantees you a spot sophomore year given you meet all the academic and disciplinary requirements

thank you so much for sharing this. How I wish CAS does that as well…!

no problem! i think if you’re on the waitlist you have a pretty high chance of getting offered a TO once wait list is released, I was just kind of confused why they already gave me the offer before wait list came out.

I really hope that is the case! but my counselor actually told me that TOs came along with decisions, and for five years no one in my school had ever gotten off the Cornell WL, so I’m nearly giving up hope here lol

I don’t know if that is the case this year but I believe that a good percentage of students on the wait list received the TO after their initial decision usually in late May to mid June. Again, idk if this year they sent out all the TO offers already and it’s just different this year but that was not the case in previous years, so there is still hope for you to receive a TO. Good luck!

they didn’t send out all the TOs most likely-- i read past threads and most people received the TO offers after receiving notifications that they weren’t admitted off the waitlist

A friend got a TO from CAS on Ivy Day, not waitlisted though.

has anyone heard anything from CALS’s waitlist? pls help lol

Because they offer the TO to a certain number of students and if a waitlist spot opens earlier you are possibly at the top of the heap for that. Makes perfect sense.

It’s sort of like how USC doesn’t have a waitlist and instead offers a Spring admit option to students. They then use that as their waitlist and often then offer those students a fall admit once they realize they have openings.

Also, only certain colleges at Cornell have the TO so schools like Engineering don’t even offer it.

any updates from engineering on whether they will use the list or not?

dyson does offer, i got one

We’ve heard nothing from engineering

In case it gives anyone insight, Cornell seems to be very late with financial aid packages this year. I have one friend and know multiple people in the Discord who haven’t even gotten their packages yet and are still being asked to send in more documents. As such, Cornell extended their commitment deadline for some people. If waitlist acceptances come late, this might be the explanation why. But of course, don’t get your hopes up too much.

ILR and CALS do as well

@lanklyloris not sure that AAP does. I have never heard they do.

Here is an older article about which schools don’t offer it. Cornell Administrators Dispute New York Times Transfer Article | The Cornell Daily Sun
