So, for the past 2 years Cornell has taken no one off the waitlist. However, in previous years they have, and the percentage admitted was not very consistent. What do you think will happen to the waitlist this year? Will no one be admitted or will some percentage be admitted?

I hope they do, I’m a legacy and I require no fin aid. If they go to it, I would be in, that’s for sure.

They waitlisted a TON of people this year (not sure how consistent it is with previous years; I haven’t checked). I know at least 8 people who were waitlisted from my school district and to be honest, I don’t think they’ll use the waitlist much, if at all. There were so many applicants.

I don’t think they will use the wait list much at all either. I would predict 0-50 people will be accepted off the wait list.

S also waitlisted at Cornell and would desperately love to go there. I hate to be a nay-sayer but found this searching Cornell’s site.

From their Undergraduate Enrollment Trends Document from Fall 2008 (page 2)

“A key element of the first-year freshman enrollment plan was the construction of conservative admit and yield models and the strategic use of the waitlist.”

Previous year’s documents also had the same or similar sentence in it, dating back to at least 2001.

2009 no longer had this sentence in it.

Every year is different I’m sure but it appears at 1st glance that their enrollment model has changed, which could explain why no one has been taken in 2 years off WL. We stayed on the WL but are not expecting it to be +ve and are making plans elsewhere.

The documents are archived here. I couldn’t find one for 2010.

An admissions counselor told me that they admitted “less people this year with the intention of going to the waitlist” but if MojoMarty’s post is correct, and they’ve been saying that since '08, then I’m a bit disappointed.

around when do we get informed of their decision? And is it by mail or email?

^It is usually the second week in May and you will be contacted by phone.

Thank you!
