Cornell?

It’s my dream school. My essays are as good as I can get… I hope.

But how about just off of my stats?

I applied CAS

GPA: 4.6/4.0 W, 4.0 UW
Rank: 6/859
AP Scores (These worry me the most): Biology 4, Chemistry 4, Spanish Lang&Culture 4, English Lang&Comp 4, Music Theory 2, Human Geography 2

- I fell sick while taking 4 of these, and my flu caused me to be unable to listen to the sections for AP Music Theory (my ears were clogged). I know it sounds really bad, but I made a note of that in the Additional Comments.
SAT I : 800 M/ 770 W/ 700 CR (2270 overall)
SAT II: 800 Bio M, 750 Chinese Language, 740 Math II
EC’s: Mock Trial (Team Captain, head Prosecuting Attorney & Prosecuting Medical Attorney)
Key Club (Activities Coordinator)
Illumination Foundation (Founder, President), club to break cycle of homelessness within OC
Ecology Club (Treasurer)
Sophomore Commission (Treasurer)
Youth Volleyball Coach
Math & Science Private Tutor
California Scholarship Foundation Volunteer
Babysitting (Extensive Periods of time over summer, explains lack of EC during summer)

Essays: Good. I like.
Teacher Recs: 2 are GREAT, I’m sure, 1 is probably average
Counselor Rec: No idea. Our counselor doesn’t get to know students too well.

Just going off of your stats, you never really know. You certainly have a shot anyway. You have a great GPA and SAT I/II scores, and your ECs seem well-rounded. Though some internships or summer experiences might’ve helped more, you can’t change it now nor couldn’t have due to your babysitting, as you said.

As for the APs, honestly, I just wouldn’t have sent in the Human Geo or Music Theory scores. I got 3s on some of my APs, so I just didn’t send in any of my scores. The admissions people really don’t have enough time to think about why you didn’t send in your AP scores, which is why I didn’t send any of mine. And I don’t think it hurt me much, since I got accepted. Anyway, what matters more is that you get better grades in the class than on the AP test (which you must have, since you have a 4.0). It would be much worse if you had gotten 5s in all APs but had a bad GPA, so I wouldn’t worry tooo much about it.

Good luck!

Thanks for your input, kind sir/ma’am! Which college did you apply to?

I applied to CALS and was accepted ED
