cornell

Could any of you chance me for Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences?

I’d like to major in Sustainability Studies. I have a very compelling story that revolves around studying in a developing country with terrible pollution and poverty. I

I have a few basic question as well: Is CALS more or less selective than the other schools at Cornell? Is there a club for black/african students? How is intramural soccer/sports in general at Cornell? Should I apply ED and if so can i apply to other schools ED?

Thanks, here are some basic stats

I am from a school in MD. We are ranked in the top 25 on Newsweek. Extremely competitive. Sends tons of kids to top schools.

3.6 gpa 4.2 wgpa (I was unfocused freshman year)

Tons of Soccer related EC’s (varsity, club, tournaments all the way in africa, coaching)
Track and Field
Basketball 10th Grade
A few leadership positions (Prez. of black student alliance and international student alliance, officer in a few others)
My full year studying abroad in my home country. It’s a pretty crazy story.

Activism- participating in demonstrations for the awareness of the correlation between racism and police brutality
I plan on creating a Political Debate Club (I love that kinda stuff)
I plan on doing NHS Science
I plan teaching myself Chinese

*I feel like my ECs aren’t that strong. In all honesty, I just do stuff because I like it.

One of my Recs will be written by my favorite teacher who also went to Cornell

29 on ACT for first time( going for at least a 32, I already know I have to bring it up, no need to mention)

your ethnicity?

@kimdy0 black (male)

your SAT scores?

@10thgrader not sending them

If your school is that competitive, then it might explain your gpa but just by looking at the numbers, it’s not yet cornell-suitable. BUT if you can really bring up your ACT to 32 or even higher and with great essay, I would say, man, you can feel confident about receiving a good news from Cornell, who knows.

@kimdy0 Thanks for the response :slight_smile:

@0br0123‌ dude , you’ve got really good EC’s. I know many people from Cornell who had GPA 3.6 too. So yes, you have a high reach chance to go to Cornell.

@10thgrader Ah that’s a relief to hear, thanks!

Get that ACT up and write a good essay (which it seems like you might have the content for) and I think you should be fine, assuming that GPA has shown a great upward trend. Cornell admits a lot of URMs (coming from a URM, Cornell admit myself), so I think you have a great chance.

Chance back anyone?

To be competitive, you need better GPA and ACT. Hopefully, you aren’t waiting for the decision next week but have another year or two to focus on your studies and grades.
