Portfolio: got great comments at the review session.

I think my activities are primarily focused on my possible majors.

do I have a "chance" ? i know my UW gpa isn't fabulous, but i'm going into an art related field, do you really think 3.4 is going to affect my chance?

very good chance provided the essay is great, you have a good portfolio, and something to back up your low gpa (ie family situation , high class rank, etc)

cheers,
Mike

um you gotta decide what you want in AAP. you cant just apply to the college and expect to be placed somewhere. its one of the few colleges that you HAVE to declare your major. and for arch, you cant just like it as an after thought...you have to accept that you are going to be eating, sleeping, and breathing architecture 24/7. luckily for you, fine arts and arch dont really focus on grades and SAT scores (though they still are a major factor)...its your portfolio that can make or break you. you can have the most perfect stats and a mediocre portfolio and be rejected. work on your portfolio as much as possible this summer. if you want ED, you need to have it reviewed and everything BEFORE nov. 1 (whether its by an alum or on campus).

hey thanks guys!

yeah, I know you have to choose for AAP lol, but i'm undecided between ART and ARCHITECTURE, so I was wondering if I could apply to both art and architecture and see which one i'll get into. which ever one i get into will be the one i'll be going for (of course)

i'm still working on the portfolio...just out of curiosity...does Cornell Arch / Art have a preference over art styles? i was thinking about doing surrealism...but im not sure...ive heard that some colleges dont want to see artworks that are produced from imagination...

and im doing regular decision.

are you in cornell's arch laurstar07?

open to more suggestions :)

WOW you're doing really great! Keep up the good work!!! I think you have a really high chance because compared to my friends who got in for architecture/art, you have AN AMAZING SAT, just to give you an idea, my friend just got in with 2000 and a 3.6 GPA around (not too sure about GPA because we're International) but yeah

DON'T WORRY!

Just keep up the great work :)

i am in arch. and you cant apply to both. decide now. really, you have to be committed to arch to be able to get through all of the projects and all nighters. im telling you. if you dont love it, itll be torture!

If you were applying to a non art related field your gpa might be an issue, although your sats are all steller, so you might just go to a very tough high school. Uh yeah, if your portfolio is good, you have a good shot, play up the freelance artist/designer and the art therapy stuff on your app if you can.

thanks.

so laurstar07...for Cornell's architecture...there's absolutely NO time to do club related activities? i was thinking about doing orchestra...but if architecture at Cornell is THAT overwhelming then i guess id have to make that sacrifice. (most importantly, do i have time to work for money??? lol)

oh and do you happen to know anything about their art program? is it good, do you know? ive heard theyre really good, but i would like to hear a feedback from an actual Cornell student. :D

art has a heavy presence on campus...what specifically interests you?

musicians do exist though they're their own niche...
