Cornell's Fraternity scene

Can anyone tell me what Cornell's fraternity scene is like? what are some of the top houses? and does anyone know anything about the Sigma Phi chapter there?

by all accounts sigma phi is a very highly regarded house on cornell's campus. i know many of the guys there and i heard their latest pledge class looks pretty good. sig pi and sae are two other ones with really big reputations. ... there are abt 43 fraternities on cornell's campus though so the degree of "tier"-ization for lack of a better word, is much less pronounced than it is for sororities. if that made any sense, lol. my girl acquaintences in sororities seem to emphasizing that delta chi has a promising future too.

Sorry to shift the topic a little, but is Cornell one of those schools where greek life dominates the entire social scene? I've heard a lot of the student body is involved in sororities and faternities.

25-30% of the student body is in a fraternity or sorority, so Greek life plays a big role here. The second semester party scene is largely mixers, so people not in houses have a rough time finding places to go. Many weekends there will only be one open party, which gets packed really quickly. My friends not in sororities often have nothing to do because of the lack of open parties. Generally, if you're not in a house, the parties will be limited, but you should be able to find something to do if you make an effort. I've been told open parties start coming back towards the end of the semester as mixers decline, but I can't validate that, since I'm a freshman.

On my favorite frats...One of my good friends is in Sig Phi, and I find most of the guys there to be pretty chill. Every time I've been to Sig Pi I've had a really good time/blacked out. Delta Chi has great parties, but they seem to be really infrequent. There are some other ones I like, but I don't really feel like publically stereotyping all of them, so I'll limit my comments to the ones already mentioned. If you have questions regarding houses you can private message me and I can tell you my impressions of them.

More importantly: you shouldn't join a house based on its reputation. Stereotypes are generally exaggerated and if what other people think stops you from joining a house you like, then I really don't think you're mature enough to be in a fraternity. You're going to be doing everything with the people in your house for 4 years, so it's best to pick a house that fits you, rather than one that people regard highly.

Ok, I don't drink. Is the frat scene totally "anti-me"? Or, is it possible for me to be associated with a frat (without being considered an outcast) even with my (lack of) habit? I know someone's going to be like "dude, you're gonna start drinking when you get up here." So just don't even go down that path. I just want some opinions as to whether this will hinder my "Cornell experience."

Would any current students care to comment on which frats are generally seen as the least prestigious?
