Ann Wank: Sorry about the repeat of info. I did not see where you posted in the other thread.

no worries @1234. :-*

@1234 @annwank I’m confused as to why these would be “required” when it’s not on their website or Common App thing or freshman admit checklist! And my GC seemed to think it was completely optional. So much conflicting info :(

My daughter’s counselor did not send them in last year (she said they were not requested), and she was accepted ED.

If you are a strong candidate with good grades through out 3 years of high school then the mid semester report is not as important. Most ED schools do not require the mid semester report because not all schools have them due to different grading cycle. A lot of private schools automatically send them to all ED/EA schools.

@premedprincess13 I’m just reporting what was tweeted on 10/29 in the live twitter chat with ED admissions. I specifically asked the question about Q1 grades and the adcom rep replied that yes, Q1 grades need to be sent. I agree with you though, that Cornell should be more clear on this on their admissions requirement pages.

@Renomamma this is very reassuring. She was probably a really strong applicant, right? @oldfort that is what I was thinking. My school’s Q1 grades just came out. @annwank yeah I agree it’s really confusing. Thanks for giving me the heads up though.

Premedprincess- her grades were good throughout hs. I don’t think this is an issue worth stressing about (easy for me to say). Best of luck to you!

Apparently, there are different checklists on Cornell’s site. The CoE checklist clearly requires a mid-year report. http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/admissions/undergraduate/apply/freshman/checklist.cfm

“We require a current Senior Year grade report. For ED, this would be a 1/4 year report. For RD, this would be a 1/2 year report … By Thanksgiving”

@fsharp thanks! This is engineering though. Do you know anything about Human Ec?

@premedprincess Sorry, I don’t know about colleges other than engineering.

The twitter chat to the question by @annwank doesn’t call out CoE specifically, so they may want the 1Q grades for all colleges. On the other hand, except for CoE, this is not something that is clearly spelled out in the applications process. Surely, Cornell can’t rely on disseminating this information through the grapevine. I can see how some applicants would easily miss this “requirement.”

Yes, when I asked the question I was assuming it was for all schools, even though I had CAS in mind. I should have been more clear in my tweet. Having said that, I agree with @fsharp about learning info from grapevine. Cornell should be more clear on their requirements since that is where most students go to get the required info for their apps. I do see on the web where CoE requires 1st Q grade report, so maybe the admissions officer on the live chat assumed they were needed for all schools.
