Cornell's undergrad business program

I have a few questions about Cornell's undergrad business program. I presume that is the Applied Economics & Management in the College of Agriculture & Life Science.

Understand that AEM is completely separated from Johnson, both in terms of faculty and facilities. This makes sense as one college is stated funded and the other is private.

Q1: When was AEM established? I ask the question because Cornell was not ranked by US News until this year.

Q2: How's the quality of the faculty/facilities in AEM compared to Johnson?

Don't even bother comparing Johnson to AEM, they are at different levels. I am in AEM and I love it. It was established about 2 years ago, developing over the past 100 years from Agricultural Economics. It was not rated in USNews until this year because it was never accredited by the AACSB, but now it is. Since it was not an official business program until recently, they never had a reason to become accredited, until recently.

Spn, If you choose a different major in the Ag school, is it easy to switch into AEM? Would you recommend doing this?

I would say that you should apply to the major that you are very interested in because it will help your cause when they are reviewing your application. You can always switch later. Doing so withing the Ag school is pretty easy. I transferred to AEM from the Hotel School, and it wasnt too difficult for me, but I was coming from another business program. Overall, within CALS, it isn't hard or impossible.

Do the faculties cross-teach between AEM and Johnson? Can you do electives at Johnson?

It must be very expensive to have and maintain two sets of top-notch facilities and faculties.

Spn, I have heard that everyone is trying to transfer into AEM. If I choose to major in a different area in the Ag school, will it really be easy to switch?

If you meet the requirments, then you should be able to switch, as long as you can show an interest in the major. Even if you do not get in right when you apply, you can go through the Internal Transfer Division (ITD) and get sponsored by AEM, which would allow you to get into the major in the future.

Anyone at Cornell can take select classes in Johsnon. The faculty do not overlap, but a couple classes are cross registered, like Business Law. As an AEM student, like everyone else at Cornell, you have access to all resources the University has to offer. The physical facilities for the Ag school are not quite as nice as those in the Hotel School or Johnson. But since the deparment is rather new, it will take time until someone donates money for a new building. Also, I do know they are raising money to perform classroom renovations in Warren Hall (which is home to the dept.), but I do not know when that will happen.
