just going to repeat my q because this was the forum I was pointed to!

Hey everyone,
So Im going to applying to Cornish in January and I'm really hoping to get in. My major is visual communications and I was just wondering if anybody is in the design program there? HELL, if youre in any program! Could you please help me out? I just want to know what the program is like, how the portfolio review goes, and the general admissions process. I'd realllyyy appreciate it.

Thanks!

since no one is answering
are you going to be HS senior? In Seattle area?
if so, should be some kids you or your GC know have done the same before.
If you are out of state, I’d wonder why cornish?
I had mild interest because it’s location and got other arts, performing, music etc
but figured art-art is not necessary well funded nor strong for what we have to pay for.
I haven’t seen it in person, so you don’t have to listen to me.
just that, hanging out in here long enough I kind of see that some kids have this idea where they can/want to go only from limited information available to them: either locally or what parents/friends/not so well informed regular HS’s GC/misguided art teachers - know.
read up what’s in this forum and go to schools’ website to see what is exactly required of what major. It is mind bogging but as long as you are decent student with clean record, can or willing to work hard (enough to crank up portfolio to show your intention) mid-tier art schools are not that hard at all to get in. Some have open admission. some don’t even ask test scores.
that is, if you are not picky and can do without merit aid.

D had her portfolio reviewed by Cornish rep at a NPD, and he told her she would have an excellent chance of financial aid. By then tho, she had pretty well made up her mind, so she didn’t pursue it. It was more of a time filler at the NPD waiting for her friends to finish up. I would have liked to go see it tho…

No, I’m planning on transferring out. I am also out of state, but I have wanted to go to Cornish since I was in high school and I got a chance to visit Seattle which confirmed my choice. I tried talking to my GC about it but she really didnt help me at all. She didnt have any clue as to what classes I should/could take or what credits they would accept, but I suppose its something I have to email the school about. Thanks for the advice, both of you, I appreciate it.

The best thing to do in terms of credit transfers etc is to contact Cornish directly as you mentioned. Sorry my only knowledge of Cornish is from years and years ago, it must be a very different school now as it was relatively new when I was in Seattle. As I said, it was years and years ago. Is your focus on Cornish because of Seattle or the school in particular?

Both! Definitely both, my first interest was the school and after my trip I realized that was really where i wanted to be. I’ve read about all the professors and I’ve seen the campus so i thought it was the best fit for me. Thank you though, I should probably contact them as soon as possible.
