Coronat Scholarship

Hey guys,

I was invited to apply and I just received confirmation that SU got my essays. I have a few questions. First, when will we find out whether or not we are finalists and what does this mean:
"If you are chosen as a finalist for the Coronat Scholarship, you will be asked to participate in individual and group interviews with the Committee from Monday, March 21 through Thursday, March 24, 2011."
Are we supposed to stay in Syracuse for the 4 days or is it just one or two of those days?
Thanks,
good luck to all!

I have no idea. I’ve been wondering the same things. I sent my essays thursday last week and have yet to receive confirmation that they got them.

Yeah, well actually I sent mine on Saturday. But the whole thing is pretty ambiguous.

Yeah, I agree. Was SU your top choice?

No, actually Yale is my top choice. but I don’t think it’s going to happen. My mom convinced me to apply to SU, partly because she went there and also because of the possibility of scholarships. How about you?

Haha pretty much same thing with me, except my top choice is Dartmouth.

haha. I was talking to a friend whose sister is currently a Coronat Scholar at SU at he said that you have to go for all four days and that there is a dorm ready for you. That sounds really kind of boring. I have no idea what we would do for 4 days. Plus, being from Central New York it really isn’t much of a vacation.

I was invited to apply for this scholarship as well. I sent in my essays this past weekend.

and can anyone estimate about how many Coronat invitations they sent out this year? I was reading older threads and in that year the people chatting on the thread said it was about 120.

milkheiress, you have pretty good stats. What’s your top choice? I would presume that they invited the same number, but SU did have an increase in applicants, so I don’t know if that changes anything.

Thanks ny4chelsea- so do you.
And my #1 right now is university of pennsylvania, but it’s a reach so we will see about that. What about you?

Thanks, I also applied to Penn, but my top is Yale. However, I was deferred early so I don’t know if it will work out.

Also, which book did you guys write about?

I wrote about The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I think it will be an interesting experience if we’re all finalists for the scholarship and go to SU for four days. It’s going to be a pain missing all that school though.

Do you think you’ll go if you get the scholarship?

I wrote about The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder. It’s going to be rough missing all that school, because I missed 2 day this week, I am missing 3 next, and then we have a day off after that and then four more days.

I would certainly consider the scholarship, but if I got into Yale, I would almost certainly go there. But if I don’t, then I could see me accepting the scholarship. How about you?

Yeah, this scholarship would be hard to turn down for me. If I get into Dartmouth, then they’d have to give me a really good financial aid package to beat this.

Although I think I’d take some debt to go to dartmouth…

haha, I agree

when do you think we’ll find out if we’re going to the interview?

I would say be the end of this week
