Corporate law undergrad majors.

I’m a junior in high school right now and I’m interested in becoming a corporate lawyer. I’ve looked up what I should major in during undergrad but I haven’t really gotten a solid answer. Any opinions on what major/classes I should take to get into law school and become a corporate lawyer?

Pre-law majors score the worst on the LSAT apparently. Do something interested to you. Preferably something you would be happy with, if you decide you don’t want to continue with your law school plans. If it was me, and I wanted to do corporate law, I’d probably double major or major/minor in Something I like + business of some sort so I have a basic understanding of corporate concepts.

How to get into a top law school–

  • Major in anything you want;
  • Get at least a 172 on the LSAT Bonus if you have a record of some sort of interest, such as work history or avid avocation.

Literally you can become a corporate attorney with any background at all, from theater and studio arts to sports medicine; engineering; nursing; accounting; history; foreign languages; women’s studies. This is because law is a field that encompasses all areas of life. There are arts attorneys, international deals attorneys, intellectual property attorneys, etc. If you want to do deals in a big law firm, they will train you in the details once you’re on board for much of what you will be doing.

Your choice of undergraduate college is not so important as you might imagine. See for example Harvard’s list of colleges it drew from –

You will want to go to one of the top 10 law schools to guarantee being recruited into a Big Law law firm. Check out schools that are known for producing corporate lawyers. NYU and Columbia are top contenders.

You can start studying for the LSAT at any time. The more you practice, the better will be your score.
