Corporate Scholarship Notifications

^^^^Yes it does but only if you are national merit finalist. If you get a special scholarship, then you are not a national merit scholar, you are a special scholarship winner. That is the key, did you make to NMF level?

My son’s NMSC corporate scholarship came in the mail today! Goodluck to everyone else who is still waiting!

Well, our notice finally came today! I was getting very nervous, they are running much later this year than before.

Does any one know what news paper or site will be posted the Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship® Winners tomorrow?

It is released to the press. They not advertise it like in the USA Today for example. Each newspaper can then choose to publish what they want, many don’t or they publish only winners from their region or area.

Unfortunately did not receive a corporate scholarship. Is there any chance that there are some that they send out later? Do they send everyone who applied a rejection letter? Does anyone know if you call national merit if they will inform you of names of students who received them?

You could call NMSC. Also you could look up how many scholarships your employer gave in the past and that would tell you if it is competitive or not. If they give 5 scholarships last year and all 5 were awarded, then it stands to reason that some may have been rejected. If the had 5 scholarships and awarded 3, or gave 2 special scholarships, then may be there were not enough applicants.

In other words, my understanding is Corporations would like to award all scholarships they have agreed to award, as long as conditions are met. Also the decision is made by NMSC staff not corporate staff. So if a corporation says we have 5 scholarships, attempts will be made to award all 5, provided all other conditions are met.

The link below shows how many scholarships that company awards.
http://www.nationalmerit.org/student_guide.pdf

This is an example:

The annual report gives you the actual awarded the previous year.

Accenture gave 6 the previous year, so I suspect there were more than 6 applicants and some students did not get it.

ADP gave 8 national merit and 30 special scholarships. They were supposed to give 37. This tells me that the National merit was not competitive, all those who qualified as NMSF got the scholarship plus some others got the special.

So are the special scholarships announced at a later date than the corporate scholarships (like are the letters sent at a different time or are these already sent as well?) Are the corporate letters that were sent out currently only for those that were NMF; because my child was not NMF, but did the application received from National Merit for the McKesson Corp. Scholarships. I think that this was a special scholarship application…

I know that McKesson (the one going for) gives away 20, but I could not find the make up of which kind they gave out last year…

lacy, I think it is very dependent on each specific corporation. My S received the special scholarship notification last week, but each corporation seems to be on a different schedule. Our letter says they do notify candidates who do not receive special scholarships in May, so you should be noitified if he does not receive one.

mamabear was the letter indicating the special scholarship from national merit or the corporation?

also, i am pretty sure that it was special scholarship that my child was going for as she filled out a special scholarship application and was not a NMF. I cannot find, however, when everyone who received one will be notified. I guess some still may being sent out…or I suppose we will hear the rejection in May :/

Mckesson gives 20 National Merit Scholarships. The previous year, they gave 5 National Merit and 15 special scholarships. While I have no idea how may qualified but 15 is a fair amount and hence I think you may still have a chance. If you do not hear within a couple of weeks, call NMSC or the HR office if they know. I would hang in there for a little while.

Special scholarships are given later as they first finish the National Merit scholarships before going to special scholarships.

Thanks! I called national merit yesterday and they said that they had sent out Mckesson ones on Monday and Tuesday…so now just anxiously awaiting for the mail to come everyday. Did not receive any letter today, so crossing my fingers for tomorrow. Thinking it usually takes about four days anyways to get mail…

Good luck to you and your child.I think with around 15 special scholarships, there is a good chance you will get one.

Lacy06 – what number did you call? i’d like to ask about special scholarship notification for my father’s employer. thanks

I won a Corporation Scholarship from Pfizer about last week and I was only Commended–not even NMF. PSAT was 216.

Do one or more of your parents work for Pfizer?

Pfizer Inc–50 awards for children of employees of the corporation and its subsidiaries

Last year they awarded 21 National Merit and 29 special scholarships. If you were commended, then you won a special scholarship not the National Merit Scholarship. 216 is a good score and you would have made it to NMF is most states, unfortunately you must be living in one of the high scoring states. Good that you were able to get some money as a result of your National Merit standing.

Haha yeah one of them works for Pfizer. I’m really thankful for it. $12,000 over four years is a lot. Plus the priority intern status is nice as well :)

I received notice that I was awarded an NMSC special scholarship (corporate sponsored) on Friday. $8,000 from my dad’s employer. I was commended status, and would have made SF had I lived in a different state. Missed the cutoff for CO by 1 ridiculous point. But I’m happy I got a corporate scholarship.
