@conorsperry That thread was really helpful, thanks! Kinda reassured me because not many people applied that year to the cluster I applied to (Chemistry of Life).

Good luck to anyone who applied to the Biotech/Biomed clusters at UCD…

@missiris lol That thread reassured me at first, but then I started this thread and saw how many people were applying to our cluster. XD

@chocolatechipss Thank you very much for the information and advice. It is really helpful! :D

This is the month guys! We should find out toward the last week or so. Unless you get waitlisted…bleh I’m so scared

UCD doesn’t even have a waitlist! At least applicants to other campuses know they have a chance instead of being completely rejected haha

WOOOOO

I’m sure this experience will serve us well for the upcoming college rejections… U_U
But really… poor Biomed/Biotech kids… You have like a 20% chance of getting in…

For anyone who is too lazy to check out that thread :D

wow… I suck at math. 20~30 kids get into each cluster.

25/160 = 15.6% (biotech)
25/378 = 6.6% (biomed)

@afourally omg I play the violin too! I just started last year so I am like…professional good but I’m not the worst in my orchestra of people with at least seven years of experience
@missiris oh no! 6.6% for biomed…I’m soooo not getting in D:}

@missiris i used to play the guitar too, but then it got too mainstream in my school…

Should be writing my Hemingway pastiche for English… on CC instead :]

nothing after the cluster means nobody mentioned it.

Honestly, most of this thread is us talking about other things. ^_^

No problem, cosmogony. If anyone has any questions about Davis or anything else, post or PM me.

@missiris lol That’s the point of this thread! It’s a waiting board, so I guess we talk about stuff to wait for results haha And once people start getting accepted/rejected (since results don’t always come out at the same time), they can post their stats for other people to assess their chances.

In your post about people on THIS thread and where they’re applying to, did you count a cluster no matter where it was prioritized? Because I’m 99.9% sure the numbers from 2009 refer to the amount of people who choice the cluster as their first choice.

@cosmogony Yeah, I counted it even if it was a 2nd or 3rd choice. :]

Hey guys, I was Cluster 7: Bioengineering/Mech E at UCSD last year. I had a great time and not only learned quite a lot about my science field but also established great friendships and connections over those 4 weeks. Feel free to PM me if you have questions :)

And fun fact, 3 people in my cluster last year (including me) are going to MIT next year. Another guy from Cluster 1 (computers, I think) is also going there. COSMOS alumni goin’ places!

@karaokemachine Wow, congrats on MIT!!! :]

“COSMOS alumni goin’ places!” Definitely. Just looked at the 2010 COSMOS alumni survey. It’s frankly quite amazing. The list of college, grad schools, and jobs on there = OMG.

Honestly, I’d rather be rejected than wait listed… If you’re wait listed then you just have to hold on to that tiny slimmer of hope only to have them crushed once again if you find out for sure you don’t get in. :(

@vivng6991 I agree… although I’d rather be accepted than rejected! ;)

We’re halfway through the waiting period! Also, is anyone taking the ACT within the next few months?

@conorsperry very helfpul thanks

does anyone know when most results come out… ?

im kinda nervous because i really want to get in… can anyone estimate my chances of getting in

im applying to ucsd bioengineering and bio fuels since i heard its the least competitive.

im a sophmore with an uw gpa 3.6 ( my school doesnt offer AP’s till junior year )
volunteerr for CSF
self studied AP Pysch at Brigham Young Univerity

and joined a ton of clubs… thats really all i have… eekk

@ivy I applied for bioengineering as well! I honestly don’t think it’s one of the least competitive, but it seems really interesting. The best way to get into cosmos is to display your passion for science in your essays if you think you did stellar, you have no problem :)
