COSMOS 2013 Waiting

@basicspace: for a program like this, grades are usually the least of a person’s worries. this is my earlier post on page 2:

EC’s: - Years of self-learned computer programming

 • 2 years Debate Team
 • Co founded AMC Math Team at my school this year
 • Began independent research in astronomy in January
 • Solar Boat Team (we build a boat powered by solar panels to participate in the solar cup in may)

Recs: 1 I know and think should be good, and the other should be decent (I hope)

Essays: Spent a RIDICULOUSLY long time working on them. I think they were good.

School Stuff: - Number 1 in Sophomore Class

 • 4.9/5.0 GPA or 4.6667

@hellofred How do you get waitlisted for 2 clusters…?

@dragonslayerx
First choice was biomedical engineering (I haven’t taken AP Bio yet, so I think that may have been a deal breaker haha), second choice was earthquake engineering. I’m happy, but still weighing my options on whether to enroll or not.

oh i see. You should definitely enroll (unless you get a better offer someplace else).

@basicspace I think another big part are the essays. My gpa was only a 4.05 and my ECs were nothing out of the ordinary. I’m a CSF Officer and other minor things but nothing really outstanding.

Anyone applied to cluster 1 in UCSC?

Got accepted to UC DAVIS Biomedical Sciences!
Has anyone else been accepted? :)

AAAHHH!! Got into UCSC my first choice – cluster 4 (everyday chemistry: from perfumes to pollution)! Super excited :smiley: anybody else here in this cluster?

@tamtam would you mind telling us your stats? If you don’t feel comfortable though, it’s fine.

no problem
gpa: 4.2 overall (freshman year-now); 4.7 first semester this year
currently taking AP Chem and getting an A (both semesters); took AP Environmental last year and got an A both semesters – the cluster i applied to was focused on those 2 subjects sooo…
extra curricular: member of school’s science bowl club/team, did 2 or 3 environmental volunteering things last year (fieldtrips/required volunteering), I have been volunteering with the Miracle Project (musical theater program for kids with autism) for almost 2 years
recommendations: one from APES teacher who I think liked me so that was probs good; the other from a math teacher who I had last year for Algebra2 H and currently have for Math Analysis H/Calc AB (he also had my brother 4 years ago)
essays: …i think they were pretty bomb (good); i was very…passionate?(lol) in writing them

did you get in?/to where did you apply?

Is there any facebook page or anything? I got accepted to my first choice, Cluster 6, at UCD. Also I got my financial aid denied but for some reason I got a full paid tuition award. Did this also happen to anybody?

Got accepted to cluster 1 - Ciphers - Number Theory and Logic at UCSC. :smiley: I’m still trying to convince my parents to let me go! Anyone else? :)

accepted to UCSD cluster 7: bioengineering/mechanical engineering
haha reading the handbook makes me even more excited, we should start a facebook group for UCSD

Anyone else do the roommate survey yet?

@dragonslayerx i just did!

did you get any email or something after completing?

nope, i havent

Okay. I feel this part is more difficult to do than the applications lol XD

Is the roommate survey a part of the google doc form we were sent?

@cookiestuf-- I also got into cluster 1 at UCSC
