@exl028 What grade are you in?

@xazndudex
@dsi411
Im a 10th grader (sophomore)

@exl028 From what I’ve read and heard about COSMOS, I think you have a pretty good chance! What with all those science extra curriculars and everything. Just make sure to write some really good short answers. It’s good you took AP Biology since the clusters you wanna do are biology oriented. I would say you have a good chance, then again, I’m just another COSMOS applicant, not a COSMOS admissions person.

@dsi411
i was thinking about writing about stem cells, because i had the opportunity to work with them. i cultivated them and yeah at pcc with professors/students from cal tech

@exl028 Nice! Remember to tell me when you get accepted on April 18th! And get started on that application, it’s due February 21st!

@dsi411
thanks for that confident boost. I was not really sure i stood a chance against other applicants. As for the application, i still have to write those essay, I’m planning on finishing them this weekend, since it is three days, i think my letters of recommendation pretty good. what cluster are you applying to, I’m sure you will get in as well.

@exl028 Uh well I’m applying to UCSD COSMOS, and I’m applying to the biodiesel cluster and the computers in everyday life cluster. Just being honest, I don’t think I’ll get in because I have pretty much no extracurriculars and I’m a freshman. So yeah. Plus I don’t have very good relations with my teachers so they probably won’t write very good recommendations. I haven’t been very involved in school because I have a certain kind of social anxiety. Even though going to school everyday makes me nervous, for some reason staying at COSMOS for a month doesn’t make me nervous at all. If I don’t get in I’ll just try again next year, when I have more extracurriculars and all that stuff. :slight_smile:

@dsi411
Thats awesome UCSD. dont give up. trust me i thought i was not going to get into Scripps College Academy, which can be as selective as Cosmos, but i actually got in. Even if you dont get in you have the opportunity to try again the following years. good luck on your application and let me know your application status when it come time. Good Luck
ps. enjoy your freshmen year because it will only get harder

@exl028 Thanks!

oops I am absolutely terrible at replying I’m so sorry!

@dsi411 (from forever ago heh)
They sent out these stats in a newsletter they sent to the parents after our first week there, so unfortunately I do not have the stats for any other cluster. I went to COSMOS the summer before my junior year.

@Mikaa Okay, thanks.

Anyone want to share their stats?

can anyone share some tips on good personal statements?i’m a first time applicant to these programs :confused:

Do you mean the “What excites you about math and science/How would you benefit from spending a month at COSMOS” question? I would say just make sure to show you have a passion for math and science. I only had one math/science extracurricular (kinda like you) so I really made sure they knew I did care about math and science and I also tried to show them how excited I was. For the cluster short answers, I don’t really have any tips. I did pretty bad on those.
Also, what grade are you in, and what campus and clusters are you applying to?

If you haven’t chosen yet, I recommend the music and technology cluster at UCSD COSMOS for you since you seem to like music. I think you could talk about that easily in the essay.

I’m applying to the UCSD COSMOS for cluster 8: Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine as my first choice and cluster 1: Computers in Everyday Life as my second choice. I’m currently a freshman. I really hope I can get in! I’m not sure how my essays are though…

@beautyfulday Hey, I’m a freshman applying to UCSD COSMOS too! I’m applying to the bio diesel and computer clusters. I hope you get in! What is your gpa and extracurriculars?

@dsi411 I hope you get in also!! My gpa unweighted is 4.0 and my weighted is 4.6667. I don’t really have any “academic” extracurriculars. I am on a swim team, I am in band, Red Cross Club, and that’s basically it. I don’t really have an STEM related extracurriculars. Hopefully, that won’t effect me too much.

I’m a sophomore applying for Cluster 3 and 6 in UC Davis.

Asian Male, CA

My Stats:
Soph. year uw GPA: 4.29
w GPA: 4.0
APs: Calculus AB and World Hsitory
ECs: School Site Council ( Class Rep.)
Math Club Member for 2 years
Volunteered as a Math tutor for 2 years
Marching Band/Band - 1st Alto Saxophonist/ Section Leader
Track and Field - JV Captain last year

…
Even though I asked my teacher in January, she kept on saying that she’ll work on the recommendation later, then she just went on a vacation and I haven’t been able to reach my teacher… I’ve completed everything else, except for that one teacher recommendation. Is there a way to get some extra days on my application?
