Hallo.

Mine is about “how I love to solve problems.” I’m pretty sure I win the award for cliche-ness.

I swear I’m going to do horrible when the time comes for writing college essays.

no kidding, mine literally is “I would like to spend a month at COSMOS because I believe that COSMOS will teach me how to apply (such and such concepts) to life” for statement of interest. That is all. I am probably more screwed.

gahhhhhhh

asfjodsk;afsal;fdjsaldf;afdkjasl;f

scribbles angrily on printed out application guide sheet

In my essay last year I said I would like to spend a month at COSMOS because it will help me develop “academically and socially.” It wasn’t very good. But I still got in!

@dsi411 what were your stats?
Also, does anyone know where to get the application? I want to apply to UCD (Cluster 1 first choice and Cluster 7 second choice), but the website said the application isn’t up yet. Also, do any alumni have tips for getting in? This is my first time applying, and I’m pretty nervous since my grades aren’t the best and I don’t have great EC’s.

My Stats:
Year: sophomore
female/ Asian
GPA unweighted: 3.8, Weighted: 4.0 (at least for now)
My school doesn’t offer any honor classes:
English 2 Advanced, World History AP, Math Analysis, Chemistry
PSAT scores haven’t come in yet

EC’s:
Swimming 4 years
Water Polo 1 year
Clarinet 2 years
Speech and Debate 1 year
Interact 1 year
Red Cross 2 years
Tae Kwon Doe 1 year

My math teacher and I have a pretty good relationship, but I’m ok with my science teacher.

I’m not doing any science or math related EC’s right now do I don’t really know if I have a chance compared to other students. :/

Advice would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

@lilas24 I don’t have any math/science ECs either (in fact, almost all my ECs lean towards the humanities–English, political science, and history), so don’t worry. I think we’re in pretty much the same boat.

@lilas24 Here were my stats when I applied:
9th grade
Black female (Don’t know if this helped. Probably…)
4.0 UW / 4.17 W GPA
Classes: Algebra 2, Chemistry, Pre-AP English. AP Human Geography, Spanish 1, PE

ECs: Pretty much non-existent. All I listed was math club from middle school I think. Unless I also listed garden club. I don’t remember.

Didn’t really have relationships with teachers who did the recommendations because I’m so quiet.

@lilas24 your extracurriculars are more impressive than mine lol

Thanks for the help guys!

@cornbread1999 lol but its actually not that impressive compared to other students

still way better than mine xD

@lilas24 but it is. I’ve got far fewer ECs than you. So many sports O.o

Do you guys think I should get recs from two math teachers (in which case both will be stellar) or one math teacher and one science teacher (I’m not too sure about how the science teacher’s rec will be, since I don’t know him that well)?

and it’s weird that I wasn’t allowed to take the PSAT…I had to take the ERB, which is weird because my school appeared to be the only school in the region to do that

Hm, that’s weird.

yeah. Idk, I’m going to ask a math and a science teacher.

I would have done ok on the PSAT, I got a 222 (74 W 77 M 71 CR) on a PSAT practice test

I literally went to the front desk at the office and asked, “may take the October 15 PSAT, I’m a sophomore and wouldn’t mind taking it with juniors”, and they refused. In fact, they said that I would take a new PSAT, which would link up to the new SAT that I (would supposedly) take spring of 2016, junior year. I then told them that I would take the old SAT, with the 2400 scale, early, and then the convo digressed into something about pushing myself too hard and stressing myself out. LOL, my school is all about stress relief, because we are known as the “pressure cooker” school in my area.
