COSMOS 2017

What are the acceptance rates at UCD?

@myactualname I applied for that cluster (first choice)

@luckystarwin7 Cool! I was hoping that somebody would know acceptance rates for the cluster, but it seems that you aren’t sure either. Anyways, good luck!

@myactualname hopefully both of us will be able to get in! what year of school are you in right now?
anyway i tried to search other college confidential threads for info about cluster 9 at UCD, but it’s not mentioned much (i believe i only ran across the cluster’s name once or twice during my search)

im going for cluster 7 and 8 at ucd!

heard ucd is the most competitive tho ;(

@luckystarwin7 @boahancock Yeah, I’ve heard it’s the most competitive too, especially the bio clusters. I’m a freshman right now, so I don’t have much of a chance, especially since I put Biomedical Sciences as my first choice. (I didn’t bother to check competitiveness before I applied, which was stupid of me.) There’s no way I’m getting into that, so I’m really hoping for Mathematical Modeling, my second choice. I just wish I knew how competitive it is! It would be nice if the COSMOS website had number applied vs admitted for each cluster.

How competitive is it to get into UCI’s biology-related clusters?

@boahancock I applied for cluster 8 as my second choice cluster

I attended UC Davis COSMOS 2016 last year in the Math Cluster 7. My essay was what got me in, LOL. Anyways, focus on your essay if you want to get it.

What are my chances of getting into Cluster 7 (biomedical sciences) at UC Davis?. Im currently a junior from a bay area school. My weighted GPA is a 4.5 and I am taking 4 AP classes, including AP Biology and AP Calculus. My EC’s related to STEM are Biology Olympiad, Science Alliance, Red Cross Health and Safety Committee member, and hospital volunteer. I also put that I work as a lifeguard part time because it led me to become interested in medicine.
For my essay I wrote about I became interested in the field of medicine through my job as a lifeguard, and how my passion and curiosity developed through my job. I wrote about this because I felt like it would make me stand out? I feel like it would be cliche to write something like “ever since I was little, I wanted to be a doctor” or something like that.
What are my chances?

omg @happybogostar im in bay area and im applying for cluster 7 at uc davis too!! and a junior too LOL
your stats look really great tho, considering youre in bay area and how competitive it is here!
also, try to find a unique start- the topic is a common one, but choose one detail that is special/uncommon (:

For my cluster essay, luckily, the I know the person who will be teaching my cluster. I talked about the cloud theory he invented, and the questions I have to ask. (8.5/10)

Overall it was a great application, but I’m just scared that my transcript was sent on time.

@nupstar010, wow, your ECs and awards are amazing! You have a great chance of getting in  Wasn’t the status updated for your transcript on the application page?

Does anyone remember when decisions come out again?

@boahancock On the COSMOS website it says that

“Application status will be available on Friday, April 14th, 2017 after 5 pm Pacific time.”

Omg thank u !! Dang it it’s a good month away :frowning:

I just got an email back for the admission officer and she said that they would let my teacher summit the recommendation form late because of his situation. I was wondering if someone could review my resume for bio med.
