whos going to ucsd??
Hey guys, I was accepted to COSMOS UCD Cluster 1 (Quantum Mechanics and Applications to Nanotechnology) but chose to take Linear Algebra + Statistics at a local Community College and continuing research with a professor I have been communicating with instead.
I have been very worried about my decision and how it will impact my chances to UC schools… I plan on majoring in Computer Science/Engineering, so I found slightly more use in taking higher-level math courses and keeping in touch with the research I am currently involved in.
I’ve heard that COSMOS can give a boost to UC apps since it is a well-known UC-affiliated program, but I also am a part of MESA, which is also a STEM-related program involved in the UC system, so I hope that it might compensate for the fact that I chose to go the non-UC route this summer.
What do you think? Did I make a mistake? Will I still have a shot for UCs?
P.S. Brief description of my profile:
Stats: 4.67 UW GPA (13 APs by end of senior year, mostly 5s and 4s), 1530 SAT, 800 Math II, 760 SAT Physics, 780 SAT French
ECs: Awards in multiple regional science fairs/competitions, ISEF finalist, ongoing research with CC professor, founded organization at former middle school to teach programming/robotics, leadership positions in misc. school clubs (CSF, Science Olympiad, MESA)

Has anyone gotten the student handbook for UCD? They said they would have it in May, but I can’t find it anywhere on the website.
Hey @boldly, sorry this is a bit late but I just found this thread/website and was wondering the same thing. Their website says that it’ll have been sent out in an email by May, but I haven’t gotten anything either. Do you think we ought to email the UCD branch? I don’t want to be a bother though.

I think it depends on which campus you’re going to @naclyelly because Davis didn’t have an online survey.
