I had NO extra curriculars down and I was still accepted. Essays are everything! (=

What did you guys write your essays about that made them so good? And also, does overall weighted GPA mean college GPA (10-11)? Cause my school doesn’t weight ninth grade, so that’d bring it down a lot.

Can someone tell me if one campus is better than other? Also, which clusters are hard to get into? what about UCIrvine astrophysics and genetics?

I’m having trouble picking a campus. They all have certain aspects that interest me. Does anybody know the difference between the UCD and UCI Biomedical Sciences cluster?

Well the Davis program for College is better than Irvine’s for bio if that means anything

Haha…my essay for Tissue Engineering cluster at UCSD might have been a little too technical. i definitely showed a passion for math and science with some extracurriculars, but nothing legitimate like lab work or siemens awards or anything like that.

Applied to UCSC for Video Game Design and Marine Mammal Biology (I think, there were like 5 different clusters that were pretty much the same thing). It’s the only program that fits my summer schedule (this and the Stanford camps).

All three of my essays were a bit weird and highly philosophical. The cluster specific ones were pretty good imo. Not sure about the “why do you like math/science” one though. I made a massive metaphor for science, then gave a few examples of it, then connected it all to COSMOS in 1 sentence. Not sure if that showed my passion, although I tried.

And how do you all have stratospheric GPAs? I’m in 11th grade, taking the most intense courseload in the entire class (6 APs, got all As last semester), and I only have a 4.25 counting freshman year (which I failed by my own estimation).

oooh I did Video Game Design at UCSC last year and it was really really amazing. Best month of my life! If you have any questions about it or the UCSC program in general, I’d be happy to answer them c:

Also I don’t think GPAs are /that/ important? My school doesn’t weight and I didn’t have a 4.0 (it was like 3.7 or something like that when I applied last year iirc, though that was because of PE and drama so maybe they didn’t count that? idk) but I know plenty of people who didn’t have fantastic grades and got in :O
