if anyone has any questions about this program feel free to ask. i attended this past summer so i can answer questions for you if you are considering applying or have already applied (not sure when application deadlines were)

Deadlines were exactly a week ago, so I guess everyone has applied already :D

But I have some background questions for you:

What school did you attend?
What cluster did you attend?
What were your ECs/GPA?

Thanks. ^^

I went to UCSC and did cluster 4 (chemistry)!!! verry very fun.
my gpa was about a 4.3
for EC’s i was part of an advisory board for starting up this biotech class at my school, i had done this bio program thingy in catalina, i am in Spanish honor society, ummm im not sure what else, but i think i might have put that i had attended a couple science conferences with this cancer doctor and that i was in ASB at my school. oh and awards i won from my school haha.
did you apply this year?

Um, yeah. :D

Lemme quote my stats from a different thread again. ^^

As you can see, I’m kind of screwed for getting in, since my top 3 choices have alot of people. :(

But hey, I’m hopeful!

your ecs are impressive, you’ll most likely get into one of those. I did it the summer between my jr and sr years b/c that was the first time i had heard of the program, but since you have 2 or 3 summers after this one left, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to apply again if you dont get in. Wait are the numbers next to the clusters the amount of ppl who applied for that cluster? how do you know those are the 3 most competetive?

The numbers are like people who applied as first choice. In the school I’m applying to, the clusters I chose are the ones with the most people as first choice I think. But what I’m worrying about is, of 139 people, at least 20 of them should be better than me! (Or at least with a GPA that’s higher than 3.8.)

I know that they stressed that gpa was not the determining factor, if you show interest and show that you’re passionate about science and math or whatever in your essays they WILL see it. its interesting that you were able to find out those numbers, i had no clue how many applied for my cluster. Good luck with getting in, it was a really really great experience for me.

Thanks for your support.
I think it was worth the effort to hack into the cosmos server to get those numbers. Wait, you didn’t read that.

Actually, the numbers are on the applications page. I dunno about last year, but this year they updated it every week or so until deadline.

But I hope my essays are up to snuff, because I’m becoming less sure. :D

no problem haha. but wow i had no idea that any of them did that.
but im sure youll do fine :)

Hi,
I applied to cosmos also at UCI. i’m just wondering if the research that you do at cosmos is “advanced”. I really want to have a challenge this summer and also I hope to enter and do well in some future science competitions (nothing too big).

So, what are your thoughts on the extent of the research that you did at the program?
Thanks!

Sorry kjiggy for the late response, but i cant really speak as to the clusters at UCI, but i know the research we did wasnt really research, it was more learning about lab dynamics and learning how to apply research to an idea. i had classes in reg/org chem and then environmental toxicology but they werent what you would call “university level” b/c it is a summer program with no grade. We did labs with both classes however the enviro toxicology part was the “research” type one, but all we really did was learn about the profs research and then kind of mimic some of the experiments his lab would do to further their research. so idk if that answers your question or not, but feel free to ask more.

at least a 3.5 weighted or unweighted gpa to get into cosmos?

I know this is SUPER late , but did you get in ?

What about me. I have a 3.9 unweighted gpa about a 4.4 weighted, 219 PSAT, 2270 SAT, i play 3 different sports(Cross Country, Tennis, Swimming) and am in varsity in two of them(Tennis and Swimming). I also won Most improved in Tennis, and i have very good teacher recommendation letters, and decent essays. Also, up to now, i have about 700 volunteer hours from a variety of sources including temple volunteering, tutoring my dad’s friend’s son who is dyslexic, and library volunteering.

I am applying to the UCD Biomedical Cluster, so what do you think my chances are. I am in state, and i actually enjoy biomedical sciences, and i want to be a cardiologist when i grow up.

What do you think my chances are for getting in to UCD Biomed. cluster. This is for the summer of 2013

Sorry this is my first post on this website, im not sure what to do.

isaialam, I am applying to UCD Biomedical as well. I heard that it is a pretty hard program to get into, but your stats look very good I think your chances are high, especially since you want to make have a career in the medical field. Did you ever do a research project in the medical field? That would be a good thing to put into your essay if they aren’t already submitted. Good luck! :)

No I haven’t done one yet. However, recently my team won 3rd place in divisionals for Science Bowl. If we had won first, we would have gone to nationals but sadly our league is super tough( Mission San Jose, Irvington, Dougherty)… But i did volunteer in a hospital soph. year summer.

I’m applying to UCI biomedical and im a freshman. Do you think i have a chance? I know it’ll be tough obviously since I am a freshman in hs… But i was like what the heck? why not. well anyways, I just need help on my essay! please! like what should i include in there!?

Hey isaialam what school do you go to? I go to mission LOL

wow I go to California High School. Were u part of Missions team?
