I was just wondering about this...
In Art Center, if you take two terms a year and complete your degree in four years, the tuition is 27-28K per year.

At Parsons - the tuition per year is 32K.
At Pratt its 31K
NYU is at a whopping 35K

I've noticed many people here saying that Art Center is really really expensive and that people fall in to 250K worth of debt by the end of it.... but schools such as Parsons, RISD, Pratt, NYU etc. are all more expensive than Art Center....

Am I adding up the numbers wrong or something?

I am not sure what you are asking. First, you have forgotten room and board and miscellaneous costs that can easily raise total college costs at these proviate schools to $45,000++.

Secondly, you might get a partial scholarship from these places, which reduces the cost considerably.

Third, paying 32K vs. 35K per year, which is $3,000 more, might be worth it if one school provides a better fit for you and/or better placement or better programs.

Frankly, before I would pay any of these tuitions, I would seek out cheaper alternatives such as state schools, Mass College of Art, etc.

hey azharc, im starting art center in the fall of 2008, i have a sheet of costs that accd gave me with my acceptance letter. Ill type that up as soon as i get a chance. Also, what are you planning to major in? Cause like taxguy said, wouldn't it be worth the extra cash for the better school

Hey slang =)
I got in to Art Center for 2008, got my package too, I think I have that sheet, but I'm still quite confused about it all....

I'm planning to major in photography.

So slang, will you be taking 2 terms of 3 per year? If you take 2 per year that means 4 years for the degree right, and that measn 27K in tuition a year?

Taxguy I was talking about just tuition for now, because thats where schol. money goes, I know the total cost is higher.

//I am not sure what you are asking. First, you have forgotten room and board and miscellaneous costs that can easily raise total college costs at these proviate schools to $45,000++.//

I just decided never to have children.

You're right. For example, Georgia residents can go to a state college tuition free. Maybe I can have kids after all - but just one.

Lol RainingAgain....
I'm not getting tuition for free, but I've already received some hefty scholarships (the highest at some schools) so if I got the aid might as well grab up the chance. If I lived in the US/green card, things would be a lot easier =(

2) theres always been this type of relationship between art center students and administration, its the result of having a conscious student body thats questions the actions of the administration. (wouldn't it be great if our country questioned authority too?) in this case its resulted in positive action/change

3) the poster himself also claims that if art center continues down this path it will make itself irrelevant, meaning right now it currently is still relevant and will continue to be relevant for years until students stop producing good work. from what i've seen, its some of the most professional most polished work i've seen from any school

Also, azhar decided on SVA anyways(he's from india and wanted to be in new york city) im just posting an argument for the sake of presenting a different side. No offense burning chrome

Actually, I'm looking towards applying to Art Center myself, but after reading the blog I began having serious reservations about the school - so that's why I posted here in the hopes of receiving feedback on the issues raised.

Thanks for replying, I feel much more at ease about applying later this year or early next!
