Cost of attendance?

I am an OOS admit to Stern School of Business and I was wondering about the TRUE cost of attendance in NYU?

Now considering I live a very easy-going lifestyle (meaning no clubbing, rarely eating out, using money to the minimum etc. etc.), how much would it cost to attend NYU?

From NYU's website, I gathered the following data:

Cost of tuition: approx $39,000
Room & Board: approx $13,200
Meal Plan: approx $8,000
(meal plan doesn't seem to be included in room and board?)
Pocket Money?

This all amounts to more than $60,000 a year for NYU. Could a person who is actually attending NYU verify this?

mean plan does not cost $8000. it’ll be about $1800 per semester. the most expensive meal plan is like $2000 per semester. that’s how much meal plans cost this year… and i dont think NYU would raise meal plan to $8000…
but tuition and room cost are correct. and total amount is around $60,000… for some it might be less… for some it might be more.

Oh whoops I just read the Meal plan pdf and it was $8000 for TWO years, my fault, sorry.

so now it is (for one year):

Cost of tuition: approx $39,000
Room & Board: approx $13,200
Meal Plan: approx $4,000
TOTAL: $56,200

Do you know how much pocket money a typical conservative student uses during the year?

Tuition varies by NYU school and room/board varies a lot. Below are my expenses for the 2009-2010 academic year. I’m in low-cost housing with no meal plan - lots of upperclassmen have no meal plans.

NYU Undergraduate CAS:

Full-Time Tuition…$36,586/year
Registration Service Fee…$1,089.50
CAS Academic Support Fee…$25.00
Room/Board…$$8,642/year

NYU Scholarship: $19,860/year
DAR scholarship: $8,000/year
Research Stipend: $5300/summer

With scholarships total cost per year comes out to $18,482 plus a stipend. Without scholarships it would be: $46,342 with low-cost housing or $50k-$52k without low-cost housing.

Ah thank you Alix, but I thought the room and board costs $13,200, not $8,642? Or could this be different pricing for first-years?

That person has a low-cost housing plan.

What housing plan do you recommend for undergraduates?

I don’t really care about having a 5-star dorm room, but I would like a room where there’s some space for quiet studying. Are there solo rooms too? If yes, how much do they cost?

Also how is the internet speed in NYU? Is it very fast?

Freshmen have to have roommates if I read the acceptance packet correctly. Something about FYRE. ****, I hate this whole “college experience” mentality.

^Attitudes like that are how NYU gets a reputation for being non-social. But hey, if that’s what you want, then fine. Just don’t complain about NYU not having a sense of “community” when you get there.

The internet speed is terrible in the dorms. You’d be better off using the wifi at Stern when you can.

sansri88 could you give a general approximation of the internet speed like, during downloads, how many kilobytes per second? I’m from a 3rd world nation so an American person’s view of “terrible speed” may actually be quite fast in my place xD

On the dorm internet you’re capped to 2mbit download, or about 250 kilobytes per second. Plus you cannot torrent (unless you have the right settings so you won’t get caught). HTML downloads are fine though.

On the wifi and other locations it depends, you’ll probably average around 15mbit down, or closer to 2 megabytes per second.

(I have to brag though, my old office on campus has a 250mbit internet connection, it was awesome downloading stuff there).

I’m at $1k a month but I also pay for my own food. About half of that if you’re on a meal plan.

The “official policy” is no wireless, but everyone has a wireless router in housing. And no, ITS doesn’t do spot checks, nor do RA’s confiscate them.

Wow that internet sucks, AND no torrents? Forget that

futurenyustudent,

May I ask what year you are currently in? Also the type of lifestyle you have in NYU - do you go out a lot? Clubbing? What do you usually end up spending money on?

Is $500 a month a lot fora typical conservative student? Or is it around average?

nathansin,
That’s about $16 a day. I’d say in addition to a meal plan, that would be more than most of my friend’s spent last year, but if you don’t have one, that would be very conservative.
