Cost of Berkeley

I’m getting a lot of conflicting information. Princeton Review gives me the below numbers. Berkeley students give me much higher numbers (10k room and board PER SEMESTER and 8k Tuition per I dont know) and worried parents give me the mythical 40k number.

Annual Expenses
In-State Tuition: $0
Out-State Tuition: $23,686
How much for 4 years?
Room & board: $11,630
Average book and supply expenses: $1,240
Required fees: $5,956

How much does Berkeley REALLY COST per semester and per year?

In state from the official Berkeley site:

Total Resident Budget

$21,538 on campus

$19,738 off

$14,864 with relative

I attended the Diversity forum on March 19 at UCB. They gave us the most recent student budget numbers (Dated March 11, 2005)

$23,138 (On Campus)
$20,312 (Off)
$15,672 (With Relatives)

These numbers are for in-state. Add $17,820 for non residents

what diversity forum did you attend. was that the one from the coalition of diversity? i'm confused

Sorry, it was called "The coalition for excellence and diversity in Math, Science and Engineering"

yeah i got a letter mailed from that diveristy thing and i'm engineer major but i didn't go. what did they mostly talk about.

thanks!

I pay about 4000 in registration fees per semester and exactly 1234.50 a month for the dorm. I don't really eat out or shop, but I use about 200 bucks a month for personal exspenses.

edit- nm, i pay $1034 a month for housing/food, a double in unit 1

hot damn. thank gray davis and ahnold.

Just 3 years ago, it only cost me $12000 per year to have an offcampus studio (1 block away) and full meal plan. Of course, fees were only like $4200 per year. Now it's like $6700. And the meal plan is now $300 more expensive per year.

If you're a tight wad, you're looking at a yearly cost of:

6700 fees
2250 meal plan
450x12 = 5400 rent
500 books
1000 misc

total: $16000 per year off campus.

considering a unit 1 double is $1050 and a full meal plan is $250/month, you're paying $800 monthly rent to live in a crappy dorm room.

sh** has really gone up since I left. Back in '98, a Freeborn double was only about $800 including a full meal plan.

Wow, almost $41,000 for me.
Ugh

on-campus housing at CAL is the most expensive of all the UCs. I don't know why, but it runs roughly 1K more per year than the other UCs for comparable accomodations. One alternative is the co-ops. They cost about 1/2 the amount of a dorm room (but you do need to work some hours per week)
