Cost of Living?

I am from WA state and I have heard that it costs a lot more to live in NY, particularly NY, NY. What is the cost of living like in Ithaca, especially compared to the west coast or at Columbia University?

I only ask about Columbia b/c it is in NY, NY and it is another Ivy with a "reasonable" acceptance rate...I don't think that I am quite a competitive enough applicant to realistically go to Yale/Princeton...

Anyway, is any one here a west/east coaster that has any insight? Thanks for any help.

the costs of living will be about the same at columbia and cornell. Obviously an apartment costs more in NYC, but i dont believe the student housing is the same price. Apartments can be exensive in Ithaca, though - they usually start at around $400 a month for the cheap stuff to around $700-800 a month for more upscale stuff. Prime spots are well over $1200 a month. Also, parking is expensive, usually $500 a year, or around $650 a year on campus.

I heard that Ithaca made their own currency. That's awesome lol

Which Ivy had the lowest cost of living, if anybody knows...?

If you want to spend less money just go to UW.

I'd guess cornell and dartmouth since the rest are city schools

the rural setting doesn't make Cornell cheap. The high density of college students and the need for housing makes living at Cornell expensive.

pfft you rain on my parade lol
