Cost of renting a microfridge

I read somewhere that it costs $50 per semester per student to rent the fridge. I read somewhere else it costs $200 per room. I'm in a triple next year, so is it $200 or $300 for the room?

it’s $100/year for the standard fridge and $220/year for the fridge/freezer/microwave combo. (there is $20 included in the above prices for insurance, otherwise it’s like $75 and $199…)

here’s the website, just select cornell as your school and order away: https://www.mymicrofridge.com/

there is no way to split it between roommates. one person has to order it and then you have to work it out with your roommates. If more than one orders it for the same room, they will just bring one and refund the payment to the extra orders

i’ve seen suites on west campus where the small lounge had 2-3 mini fridges (bought at target or someplace else)…

the fridge/freezer/microwave one you can rent is nice but not really meant to be shared…

Why is it not meant to be shared? It has plenty of room and it has a nice size freezer too. It isn’t really any different than any other minifridge. The biggest difference is how the electrical is connected for the fridge/microwave together to protect the breakers in the dorms from overloading.

usafa dad i meant not big enough to be shared if one is relying on it for his meals…sorry

if you’re just planning on storing a few drinks and a frozen dinner it’s fine!

Hm, are outside refrigerators allowed on north campus? What about outside microwaves? For that price, I might as well buy a set, rather than rent.

there are certain wattage/ampage requirements…though i’m not sure what they are…

check housing contract/website

just go to the dump and run really early and buy a fridge. every year a bunch of people toss out mini fridges

you can’t have a microwave period, unless it is the microfridge. At least that is how I remember it from last year.

And yeah, I don’t think any mini fridge would really be big enough if you are using it for all your meals too.

i think the only thing my D ever did with her microwave was heat water. Was kind of a waste. But try to tell that to a kid going off to college. Ha, I’m just a dad. what do I know.

BUY your own at walmart for 50 dollars. They sell one which cools really well but has no compressor so it is amazingly quiet. It is big enough for a whole 30 rack of beer plus some extras (1.7 cu ft). You can also pay 70 dollars to get one which is around twice as big and has a small freezer section (3.2 cu ft), but is also somewhat louder due to the compresser. While you cant have a microwave since it isnt attached, it is drastically cheaper to buy one.

I understand that some of you may live far away, but even if you have to ditch the fridge every year instead of shipping it back (Although not environmentally friendly lol), it can still be twice as cheap to buy. Since a huge chunk of people drive to campus to move in and out, it shouldnt be a problem.

I don’t know about your dorm, but HR5 has a kitchen on every floor. Grabbed a $50 minifridge at Target today and I don’t foresee needing anything more than that.
