Question: I just got my fin aid forms from Berkeley and it says that the cost of housing is $23,000. Seriously??? thats more than out of state tuition! That means for me Berkeley will cost $42,000!! Is this actually how much it costs?

Out of state is definitely more expensive than for in-state students. In other words, go a private school rather than Berkeley. You'll get smaller classes for the same price as Berkeley.

I highly discourage attending a public school outside your state. It's just not worth it. (Hence I didn't apply to UVa, W&M, and UMich, Ann Arbor)

cost of housing is 23000? I pay 600 a month.......

Where do you live? In the dumpster?

Really? The Cal housing sites list the rates from $9,800 - $14,580, ranging from single/double/triple occupancy in halls and suites.. I don't think housing would be more expensive for out-of-state than in-state.

is that the rate for 1 semester or the year?

for me it's $23000 per year

It's 23K a year for...

Living in a Residence Hall:
Room and Board 11,629
Food 925**
Books & Supplies 1,266
Personal 1,326
Transportation 652
Fees 7,426*
Total Resident Budget 23,224

Non-Resident Tuition and Fees 17,820
Total Non-Resident Budget 41,044

thats a lot for out of state.....
nearly the same as private schools
:(

Ok when it said that on your finatial aid that it was 22000 housing, it means that that is what berkeley thinks u should be paying total if you plan to live on campus. It will change every year depending if you want to live on or off campus.

here is a link to explain costs at Berkeley for the past academic year:
