can you guys give me an estimate of the cost of visiting Cornell over the weekend? I'll be travelling alone and paying with my own money so i want to know the cheapest way. (my parents can't afford it) I'm planning to leave from either Toronto or Buffalo, whichever is the cheapest. Right now, the cheapest method i can find for a weekend visit is $700, $400 for transportation and $300 for accommodation. Anyone has any idea of how i can cut the cost down, to around 300 in total? I'm thinking maybe crashing at a frat house? is that possible?

Check out that stuff. Free room with a student. Not to mention you’ll get a REAL experience of what it’s like. There’s a reason they’ll only host you Sunday through Thursday though Haha.

Btw, if anyone sees this, how do we go about signing up to host pre-frosh?

thanks ZFanatic, I’m so down with skipping a week of school for this. One question though, are Canadians eligible for this?

^ I’d sure think so. It doesn’t cost the school anything. The hosts are volunteers so I mean it’s not like they have to pay for anything.

Priority is given to seniors in the fall though I do know that.

What I don’t know is how long they’ll host you for. It may be only one night, or it may be more.

greyhound.com, roundtrip from Buffalo to Ithaca is $89.50. Cornell will host you for one night (Sun to Thu), and that’s all you will need. You could do this for less than $150.

join the Red Carpet Society. they’re the ones who organize it. they’ll hold a training thing sometime soon. i used to be in it, but then i moved off campus :(

^ Gracias.

so they host me for one night, mmmmmm. say if i stay at one student for a night, can any of you hook me up with another night? I’m thinking of going at around Oct 12-Oct17

just a note: i believe there’s a mini break from october 10 to october 13. doesn’t overlap too much with when you’re planning on going, but it does overlap for the first couple of days. i guess some people will be staying on campus, but i’m from nys so i’ll be going home then.

^oh shoot, i’m also thinking of going sometime from sept 21 to 29. I don’t want it to be near Oct 10 cuz SAT but i also i want it to be before the Nov 1 ED deadline.

I also wouldn’t stay for more than like two days, especially if you’re by yourself. Unless you know someone, you’d probably get bored. I’d recommend getting here early one day, staying with a host overnight, and then leaving later the next evening/afternoon.

“i’ll be by myself”? i thought i would be with a host? But yeah i know a guy there, but i usually only talk to him through msn since we live so far away, different provinces in fact lol

I meant like without parents or a friend or anything. Your host won’t spend the whole time with you, he’ll have classes and studying, so you do have to do some self-entertaining to some extent.

Granted, a good host will take you to dinner and hang out with you as much as possible, but they may have prelims or other big assignments coming up and can’t sacrifice working just to entertain you.

^yeah so true, i’ll keep that in mind. Can’t I also sit in on classes?

2 days 1 night is enough. You don’t want to be a burden to your host or anything.

unbelievable, this program is only available to Americans.

You said you know someone here…maybe he’d be willing to put you up for a night if his roommate is okay with it.
