Is undergraduate tuition fixed (for normal loads, not including underloads or overloads) or does it depend on the number of credit hours?

It varies by the school.

My kids’ schools both charge by the credit hour. So every credit they take is multiplied by the tuition and fees numbers. For instance if the tuition and fees per credit hour are $300 then 12 credit hours in a semester will be $3600, 15 will be $4500 and so on. To complicate things further some colleges within the school may charge different fees (for instance the Architecture school may have different fees to the business school).

Other schools charge a set tuition charge per semester no matter what the classes are, but may charge extra if the student goes over a certain number of credit hours.

Depends on the school…

some only charge 'per credit" if you’re taking less than 9 or 12 credits. Some charge a flat full tuition rate for those taking 12 - 18 credits.

Some charge per credit no matter what.
