how exactly does the coterminal program work?
I know it's like a 5-yr bach/master degree program (or 4 yrs).
But do ppl usually get in easily or only the ppl who would get in anyways if they were from a different school get in? (Is there a slight favorable advantage for stanford undergrad to get into grad through coterminal?)
btw, I'm deciding between mit and stanford, so any (constructive)comment is welcome.

Co-term programs can take 4 or 5 years, depending on the field, summer course work, and AP credits. I know some people who compelted the bachelors and masters in 4 years, but most coterms take 5 years.

You apply to coterm in your junior (or senior) year, and almost everyone who applies is accepted. Part of that is self selection, but I wouldn't worry about not being accepted to the coterm program.

Uh, please don't tell my son that almost everyone who applies gets accepted... He just got rejected from an engineering coterm program. The reason: He has a B average in science/engineering courses. (It is NOT easy to get an A in many of these courses.)

The up side: He has realized that he would probably rather go into another field, the one in which he is earning his B.A. He will probably either go for a coterm or a grad program in that area instead now.

I do think it is easier to get into the coterm program than into grad school if applying from outside.
