Are your freshman academic advisors chosen randomly or according to your concentration preferences? thank you in advance

There are basically three ways you can get ur freshman academic advisor as far as I know. One is by applying and getting a Curricular Advising Program (CAP) course, which therefore matches you with an advisor who also teach one of their fall semesters courses. Another is by applying to the University Community Academic Advising Program (UCAAP), which pairs you with advisors that help you connect academic study with work and service in the community; you also get to go to Brown prior to Orientation. These two methods might ultimately mean you don't get paired with someone in your concentration, tho. For ppl in neither CAP or UCAAP, I believe it is somewhat random, but still the advisor will most likely be close to the concentration you put in the app. For example, I put international relations as my intended major and got an advisor who teaches Japanese (vaguely connected maybe?). I've also heard that apparently physics, math and engineering majors are guaranteed an advisor in their concentration, tho I'm not sure. You also get a Meiklejohn advisor (an upperclassman) as well. Hope that helps. Good luck with Brown.

thank you so much..i was interested in ucaap....... you have been a big help.
