Could a "quirky" kid find kindred spirits and be happy at these "straight" colleges?

<p>Yes, definitely Hendrix and Beloit; they are havens for edgy/oddball students and meet a number of our other criteria (though Wisc is pushing it in terms of geog). OTOH, they are at the “reachy” end of the spectrum and my question concerned schools that were (1) in the “match” range and (2) NOT known for having hippie-ish student bodies, but met other of our criteria and were, therefore, worth further investigation. </p>

<p>TrinSF, southern quirky is different and would not be a particularly good social fif for msy D. (Also, since diversity is a factor, low black enrollment is an issue at some of the southern schools.)</p>

<p>^ Will note that New College is known for hippie-ish students a la Hampshire, Bennington, SLC–northern/midwestern quirky–rather than southern quirk. And it is more affordable even OOS.</p>
