could acceptance be rescinded for this?

My son has been accepted by UCSC and definitely intends to attend. He fulfilled the UC a-g requirements for math by the time he was a high school junior and his GPA is still as high as it was when he applied. Here's the thing: on his application he listed a one semester Prob/Stats class that he intended taking as a senior. Turns out it was only going to be offered second semester and at a time that he had to take another class that was the second half of a year-long requirement. The school replaced the Prob/Stats with Study Hall. My son's guidance counselor says that they advise students to let the college know of this schedule change, and reassured him that it should not affect his admission status since it's not related to a-g or course rigor. Son wants to do the right thing and tell UCSC admissions, but is terrified of jeopardising his acceptance.

Also, he's thinking of waiting to tell them about the math class that never happened until after submitting the deposit (which will be immediately after he visits for Spring Spotlight so that he knows how to rank his college choices which have to be listed at that time).
Advice? Insight? Thanks.

Sorry if my advice isn’t 100 percent accurate, its been a while since ive been in high school and had to deal with the a-g requirements. First of all, he should update the school on which courses he indeed did or did not take. Second of all, as long as the class is not necessary for fulfilling the a-g requirements I don’t think he will have much to worry about.

Best of Luck

Thanks, TheEdgeFan7. That sounds reassuring. He’s working on an email to admissions right now and is thinking of attaching his 7th semester transcript with it to show that he’s kept his GPA up.

I would let them know ASAP, and add that if UCSC insists on him completing the course, he can just take it at a local community college, or online.

Hey thanks, Kewkiekid, that’s exactly what he said in the email which he sent this evening. Please send us positive thoughts. Losing UCSC now would be devastating.

You son sounds like a much more rigorous student that I; he will be just fine.
