I know it is one othe most selective and prestigious schools in the country but is it possible for an average person to get in?
What is the most unlikely admission to yale you have heard of or known about?

How do you define average? CC average, or public high school average? Both are clearly different, so I'm going to say you mean CC average (~2100 SAT, 3.7 GPA, 4/100) and say yes average individuals have just as good of a chance at being accepted to Yale as the next person. I strongly suggest you take a look at the accepted threads from previous years and study the overall trends. If you fit into this trend than you have a fighting chance, if not then write amazing essays and improve your stats or your ECs.

I am extremely average, and I got into Yale!

How average?

You can search his chances threads I am sure....

I think I'm kind of average too but got into Yale. You can search me as well if you like.

Yes, VERY average. Actually, below average I might say.

Yes. I am a very average person, and i got into yale (and harvard!)

jack77: I think you should define what "average" means. While I applaud the self-declared "average" folks, I'm sure there were some pretty extraordinary items of their application files that gave them the nudge -- they had some "hook" or unusual attribute. Or else the slot would have been given to someone else who did. This is the nature of admissions w/the highly selective schools like Yale. I look back at my application "package" and while my academics were superior, they weren't perfect. My ECs were OK but not stellar. What was my hook was my "story" and my leadership as a Chinese in a predominant african-american community.

If you're asking if a person with a B avg, average curriculum, cursory EC involvement get into modern day Yale? Unless a relative gave mulitple millions to Yale (thus he/she would be a "development" admit -- and this might be sketchy) -- then I'd say absolutely not.

if by 'average', you mean GPA in the 93-97 / 3.8ish range, then yes.

ya like 93-95 GPA.
But for those of you in 4 point schools 95 is not that high.

Oh and you average people,
how average were you?
Did you have great interviews, essays, and ECs?

Ha ha no, if you are just average, you cannot get into Yale.
Anyone who claims they are average and were accepted into Yale, or Harvard for that matter, is modest or has no self-esteem.

People who get into Yale really DO believe themselves to be average. We are just regular kids who study hard and are involved at our schools, like most of you guys are. I don't see what is not average about that.

On the other hand, I also agree that we must have had something special to nudge us into the admit pile over 20,000 other applicants. What is it? I don't know. Only Yale knows.

hmm pagEL I know you...and you're def not average...I mean, maybe "CC average" in terms of test scores, but you WERE a house page for a while, which is kind of a big deal :-)

Though that may be a "big deal", that doesn't make a person more than average, does it? ;)

Yes, actually, it does make them above average.

pagEL60...your scores arent bad (not perfect but not bad) and the main factor was probably that u went to "not so nice" high school.
