Could anybody chance me?

I really want to go to Wesleyan, and was hoping somebody would be willing to gauge my chances.

Statistics:
-Male living 30-60 minutes outside New York City
-Senior in a public high school
-GPA: 4.0 (95+ is 4.0 at my school); my grades have a very good upward trend throughout high school – from about 92 in 9th grade to over 100 in twelfth.
-Class Rank: about 50/600 – I should be able to raise that significantly soon, though that won’t matter right away since I’m applying ED.
-SAT Reasoning Test:
CR: 770
M: 700
W: 800
Overall: 2270
-SAT Subject Tests:
Lit: 710
Math IIC: 740
US History: 710
-AP Classes/ Tests:
AP Literature -- 4
AP Spanish -- 4
AP US History -- 4
AP Language – Currently in
AP BC Calculus -- Currently in
AP Physics -- Currently in

Awards:
-AMC 12 second place among juniors and seniors in my school.
Extracurricular Activities/Interests:
-Play trombone in the high school band; am currently first chair in my section of the Wind Ensemble
-Have played in the Jazz Band since seventh grade (until it was cut this year ); I was first chair.
-Have played on the High School Tennis Team since tenth grade, but played since early middle school before then.
-I am a member of the National, World Language, English, Social Studies, and Math Honor Societies.
-Have played guitar since I was ten and built my own furniture (though I’m not so sure they’ll care about that).

Other:
-Will be applying to Wesleyan ED – I’ve heard that that has significantly higher acceptance rates.
-Have gotten very good feedback on my essay
-I have good relationships with the teachers I asked recommendations of, so I’d assume them to be good (or at least hope).
-I plan on entering the film studies program if I get in, and film had a high presence in my essay.

I would really appreciate any and all feedback. Please, be as honest as possible. Thanks a lot!

Certainly your SATs and GPA look fine for Wesleyan. I would say that you must get an interview there on campus and really give them some clear idea about what makes you special, what you would add to the Wesleyan community. If you are interested in Film Studies, you would certainly want to show evidence of what you have done to develop your interests in this area. Film Studies seems to a major many aspire to, and they are going to get lots of applicants who want to study that. Probably if you were a German major or an Astronomy major that might be seen as more distinctive. Whatever you decide to do, I suspect you have heard this before, make sure that your essay, your interview, your rec letters and your ECs “tell a consistent story” about who you are and why you would be a great addition to Wesleyan. Keep in mind that Early Decision is not an easier route than Regular Decision; but if you go ED, make sure they can see why.

Yeah, I’m definitely getting an on-campus interview, and my development with film was elaborated on pretty heavily in my essay. In regards to the ED, I didn’t intend to imply that I thought it would so much easier to get in than Regular so much as the percentage of acceptance being higher (up to around 40%, if I’m not mistaken). Still, I know what you mean – I shouldn’t hope to increase my chances purely on that statistic. Thank you for the advice!
