I'm an international student and I'm applying for Choate\deerfield\hotchkiss\loomis chaffee

Since my parents and I are not native, we could only choose schools by the ranking. Could any of u give us some details about these schools, such as what they're strong in, and how they influnce their students? We have no idea...

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

You can try the “search” function on top right of the page. It will get tons of info for you.
I do think that Choate/Deerfield/Hotchkiss/Loomis are very popular on and off CC and they all have hot threads!

I’d say the school sizes are different. (800 vs 300)
Choate and Hotchkiss tend to be better at Math(?) and Choate has a great art program. Deerfield is more humanities-oriented. Maybe Loomis is considered a tier 2 school on CC, if you put the GADES/HADES/whatever aconym in the tier 1 box. But I don’t think they’re that different.

Visit the schools. (I assume you now live in CT?)

College placement, average SAT/SSAT scores are just… All rankings are stupid. There’s no “top schools”. The one that fits you well is THE best one. But you should know how competitive the int’l pool is, as a lot of people here weren’t accepted to even one school.

Ask current students. Saer(haha I remember you) is at Choate. Go and PM them or read their posts(I didn’t mean stalking lol).

I’m international and welcome to the “int’l applicants of 2011” family here on CC! I wish you could stay here and you’d find the most valuable information.

boarding schools in CT are righteous some of the best and most prestigious schools are in CT

Deerfield is in Mass.

out of C/D/H and LC, LC is probably the weakest academically, but marginally.

D’s humanities are strong (not saying that their other programs aren’t, it’s just the most… well-known), and they have an absolutely gorgeous campus. they got a new science building a couple of years ago, and it is AMAZING. their academics in general are super strong.
C has a unique arts program, but their other aspects are strong, too. they just got new 10th grade girls dorms and apparently they’re fabulous… dont know too much about it, but their academics are really strong, too. they’re also a bit more liberal than H and D, from what i’ve heard.
H is a bit newer than the other 3, but they’re a strong school, too. they have a DNA sequencer, one of the 2/3 that belong to high schools… i believe that they have the highest endowment/student ratio, but i’m not 100% sure. they went on an all-expenses paid trip to antarctica a few years ago, and i think they graduated the most billionaires of any high school (like… 3. lol) their academics are great as well. they have a high intl rate, so you’d probably fit in really well.
LC is a fantastic school as well, but probably not academically on par with these other schools (as with their college matriculation). they have a strong english department and art program and LC isn’t as cutthroat (apparently) as the other 3, which is great !

i think that D has the best college matriculation (which, if you’re asian, your parents are probably obsessed with haha).
anyways all 4 are great schools and have their strengths… H and D have great athletics, as does LC. not so sure about C, but you could just google that.
GOOD LUCK (:

ps: this is all just what i’ve heard / my opinion. you don’t have to agree with this, so if you dont you can just correct me / post your own opinion. just trying to help here, not offend anyone haha

Hi yvonnez! I go to LC and I love it! All around every department is wonderful. We have a new Science/Mathematics center that just opened this school year. Our new Music Center will be fully completed for school next year as well. For new students, and especially international students, we have strong orientation/immersion programs at the beginning of every year and throughout the year. I recommend you check out our website, [Loomis Chaffee](http://www.loomischaffee.org), for specific information. There you can read about the academic departments, arts, athletics, and student life.

Taft is also in CT with a very impressive campus.

Kent is very good also. Search for italianboarder’s posts. He’s a student there now.
