I'm trying to complete a scholarship essay from my school and its question is: "Please write a 250 word essay adressing why you wish to receive this $1000 scholarship."

If anyone could give me any ideas on how to complete this, they would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I would talk about your goals and how these goals have influenced your activities, etc.

wow. thank you. That's much better than the: "because I do" essay I had planned. Thanks again.

Also, your essay will definitely go to the top of the pile if you can tie a symbol in throughout your essay.

a symbol? What do you mean?

I sort of have an example. I'll try to explain it.

I have always known that my destiny was to be a teacher. I started my essay, out with a quote from my childhood. From this quote, I led into my passion for education. Then, I defined what education meant to me and why I was passionate about it. I had to discuss my activities and achievements in this essay, and I didn't really want my essay to just sound like a list. So, I chose just a few of the awards I had won and tied them into my passion for education.

For example, "I recently took the initiative to learn about biofuels and their future impact. Although my entry into the Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture’s Essay contest garnered first place honors, I value the knowledge of this important environmental issue more than any award and plan to use this knowledge to benefit others."

I know I've read a lot of sample essays that included a much easier symbol to write about. One thing that comes to mind is somebody who wrote about rock climbing and how it applied to their life.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

My ultimate advice: Write about something you are passionate about. If you aren't truly passionate about the topic it will show in your writing. One subject will not work for everybody. If you find yourself having trouble finding anything to write about, you may need to change your subject or approach.

The most important part of your essay is that it's a reflection of you. Your essay can be as great as you make it.

Good luck!

Be sure to stress how this scholarship will help you achieve your goals.
