I am a junior, and I screwed myself up. First of all, in the first semester I took 6 IB classes, and 2 AP classes-- and got 2 A's and the rest B's. Now, I droped out of the AP classes, and still get VERY (C's-D's) low grades because all my motivation is gone. I stayed up till 1 o' clock daily for months, and still ended up a failure. Now, I have to prepare for 8 AP tests, and have to sacrifice grades. My parents and councler treat me like some mental patient, and gave up on me. Sometimes I just feel like giving up and f---ing it all. Do you have any advice what I can do?

To get a better idea, I need to know which AP classes you are taking... Some are harder than others :)

European history
Chemistry
Physics C (Mechanics and Electricity)
Calculus BC
English Language
English Literature
Biology
Thanks a lot Inania

Why did you take so many? That seems kind of unnecessary if you're stressing yourself out so much. You could have probably gotten away with either Language or Lit.

Oooi, that's a lot of classes... I feel better about my 5 APs now... thank you.. lol :D
GET SOME SLEEP.... sleep correlates with the motivation people have for doing things... try for at least seven hours a night... unless you are like me - someone used to sleeping for five hours a day, you are not going to function well on so little sleep. Beside, if you are tired, everything will take longer to process

European history: Loved this class...
Chemistry: Depends on your teacher, usually this shouldn't involve too much busy work... the concepts are pretty straightforward.
Physics: I've only read the textbook for the AP curriculum, so I don't know the amount of busywork involved... sorry
Calculus BC: No clue... Not here yet :) But AB isn't hard at all so... uh..
English Language & English Literature: Oh god... why are you taking these two at the same time?
Biology ??? A third science? My max was two....are you crazy...? no wonder you don't sleep... :p

Ok, I am not clear with your abilities in any of these areas, so my recommendation is severely limited... but here's what I'll recommend based on the idea that you understand all the concepts and it's the busywork that's draining life away from you...

If you are very strong in science (which I'm guesssing is close to your scenario,) then drop one of your English classes to cut down on the amount of busy work. It might also help to drop the science that you are weakest in or the one with the most busywork.

On the other hand, if you are strong in history... which by my definition is that you can read through something once and pretty much retain and process 70% of the information... then drop your weakest science class or the one with most busywork (i.e. homework) along with one of the English classes...

Are you doing any extracurriculars? Because your schedule seems somewhat manageable if you just beelined between school work and homework... but somehow I guess that's not the case... If u are reluctant to drop more than one class, I really recommend that you begin to squeeze time out of all your ec... Honestly, I think it's better to get good scores on fewer classes than so -so scores on a whole bunch. ALso, something else to consider is that if you could take some of your classes on contract and have just a free period in the day study, then DO IT. It might also help to show you can raise the grade of one of the classes you are doing poorly in in the first semester

God... Good luck come testing time... :(... I'll keep my fingers crossed for you... I hope you are doing better. :)

Thanks for the help,
Do you know if colleges will actually look favorable upon all this, or will they just think of me as another one of those people who study all day? I do some extracurricular activities (science/math club, student council, research, etc)?

do u have anything not totally science involved (ec, I mean) beside student council? By your current selections, I would recommend that you be very, very, **very **good in science... or else it would look like you are only taking all those AP classes for the way it looks on your transcript. IF you show a very strong dedication and talent in science, on the other hand, it could work in your favor... but do you do any type of sport? Volunteer anywhere?

Hey, Inaina,
I am thinking of taking some college courses in physics, math and psychology next year. (I think i'll take some EPGY courses to prepare me). I got a 5 in the psy ap test, so I'll be able to take a junior level course in psychology (at my local university). Would this help me? (also, I am a Seimens westinghouse semifinalist, and I'm trying for finalist this year), Would all this get me into, say, Harvard?
Thanks
