Purdue put more emphasis on academic rigor above all else. Considering that a “C” in Honors classes would equate to a B/A- in regular classes, this won’t harm you. Even if you don’t get accepted into the engineering program at Purdue there is still a strong chance you can get in and STILL take engineering classes except you’ll be one semester behind.

“Purdue put more emphasis on academic rigor above all else”
Descuff- Yes I was hoping that they would do that. I also hope that my upward trend in grades and sat score will make up for my gpa. I also learned today that I will be working in the engineering lab at IUPUI during the year, and I hope that will also help.

Lol a C is a C. But your GPA would put you near the, bottom of the barrel. It appear you have many other favorable things working for you though. The only issue,I imagine is not qualifying for scholarships because of “GPA requirements”. I got into Purdue this year with a, similar GPA but I didn’t have the sat scores or the extracurricular you have.

All I can do now is have a good application essay, and do well on the ACT
I know I probably won’t get any scholarships, though I am ok with that

Good, luck. I do think my essay won them over.
I would focus on the math part of act. I heard people got in with a high math and science scores and medium writing and reading scores.

Up to you. If you apply earlier you’ll just get your decision earlier. the, early app is,due like October so idk if you can like take it in August and then apply after learning your scores… November is the priority deadline for scholarshipso don’t miss that. There is really no benefit to applying by either dates except learning of your decision earlier. I notice there weren’t even much time difference between people hearing their decision.

Your SAT is solid and exceeds 75% by far. You should consider taking sat 2 in math level two and physics to show u have masters material needed to exceed in engineering later on. EC are solid (any leadership role, admissions committees like to see this). Clearly your GPA is low low low, but I think the rigor of all the APs make it worth it! In the end I think the extra effort and work will pay off in you favor.
All being said, I think u have a solid match. Especially if u apply EA

BrandiesBoy: Well thats the problem, if I take any subject tests, then I wont qualify for the early action deadline because the results wont be back untill after nov. 1.

Does anyone know if Purdue does rolling admissions? I want to know because if they do, I won’t take sat subjects tests in math and physics, however if they do, I can take them. The priority notification deadline is on November 1st, but I don’t know if they look at all of the applications after November 1st, or they look at them whenever they come in and notify everyone in December. Does anyone know?!?!

I would suggest you try to get the SAT score up. I honestly think Purdue is a match, though there is a chance you might get waitlisted due to your low GPA. There might be an option, though, if you apply to Purdue normally and then try to transfer in as an engineer.
Just work on the essay and see what happens. Have a backup…I think you would definitely do well at Indiana U - Bloomington as well. Good engineering + business program.

FYes I was considering that, however it would take me 5 years to graduate and spend a lot more money. IUB does not have an engineering program btw, and my thoughts exactly, I think I might get deferred
I was thinking I’ll submit my app in august/September but still take the sat subject tests and send them in october (I dont think Purdue looks at the applications until after nov. 1)

I am also an international student, even though we have been living in Indiana for 12 years, we just dont have our green card, does that decrease my chances?

O.o are you allow to stay in the us for a,long period of time?
Oh and your GPA is not low enough to get you waitlisted. There a chance you won’t get in the engineering program and still get into Purdue. Oh and I don’t recommend applying to Purdue and then transferring to engineering because there is a chance you might have gotten into engineering.
Purdue have a large international base so I don’t know of not having something decrease your chances.

IU sucks! They don’t have an engineering program… O.o
Purdue start looking as soon as they get them. I would take sat/act first because you still need to send scores WITH your application.

Yes, we are legal residents here, and I am putting down my Indiana high school that I went to, and I was going to apply to the engineering program anyway. I know my GPA is low, though I hope my big upward trend will make up for it. Also, I though they don’t look at the application until after November 1st?

They probably do but I’m pretty sure if you’re applying for the October early deadline you will need EVERYTHING in by that October date(which is probably oct 15). Otherwise you would technically be missing out on being informed of your decision earlier.
