Could I apply to transfer for UCB Econ AND UCB HAAS?

I'm about to start my first semester at a CA CC. I hope to transfer to UCB in the Fall of 2009 (assuming my grades are adequate.) My questions is this: Could I apply for both UCB to study Econ, and UCB Haas? The reason I ask, is for the purposes of class selection. I want to make sure I have all the prerequisites completed for whatever school I decide to apply to. Obviously, I intend to work hard, and maintain a good GPA, but competition for Haas is quite tough as I understand it.

Thanks for the help.

No, I don't think so. You have to decide.

Haas Requirements + Calculus II = Econ prerequisites

AdamantineX,

Thank you for the info... That makes things easier. I guess I'll just see where I'm at when the time comes to apply.

Thanks,

S4

no you cant. You can only apply to one school. Either the haas school of business or the college of letters of science for econ.

I would have tried to apply to haas and econ but you cannot

That makes for a really difficult decision.

By the time you apply if your GPA is not 3.8 or higher I would suggest applying for UCB econ.

What would be a competitive GPA for UCB Econ or UCB Haas?

It is hard to say But anything lower than a 3.8 starts to drift into the non competitive zone. However a 4.0 will not guarantee a student to get into Haas by any since of the word. It is very critical to get all your major prerequisites done and find ec's to make you stand out from the crowd. And by ec's have a good background in Business.

Not sure what count as ECs, but I have a somewhat unique situation. I'm 23, returning to school after a career as a Financial Advisor for both A.G. Edwards and Morgan Stanley. I was sat on two non-profit boards, along with a bunch of other business related things.

I don't know if that'll make me any more or less competitive, but that's what I have thus far.

Actually that is a great background for Haas. Haas likes to see people with a business background and by working with Morgan Stanley and A.G. Edwards you have certainly shown that you have Business experience. Just show some involvement at your school and get a high GPA and make sure you finish all your prerequisites. When you get ready to apply talk to your schools counselor and even more important talk to a representative from the Haas school of Business and see how competitive they think you will be in the applicant pool. Then decide to apply to econ or business.

I sure hope so. UCB Haas is hands down my top pic as far as the school I want to attend. I also plan to apply at NYU Stern, Northwestern, CMC, and some safer places. UCB is my top pick, because it would save me some serious money.

You could always apply under another major and then transfer into Haas. You still wouldn't have any guarantees about getting in, however.

Actually that will not work. Switching majors after you are admitted is only allowed college you in the college you applied to. So if you apply to letters and sciences you can not switch to Haas school of Business it is not in the college of letters and sciences.

That's what I thought. Especially since I'll be transferring to UCB with 60+ units already.

haas undergrad is a two year program switching majors is impossible to do. You’re either in or your not.

glad you brought up a two year old thread to clear that up haha
