I hear that Chemical Engineers work in many different sectors because ChemE is a very broad major so I was wondering would I be able to be a Computer Engineer with a ChemE degree?
Ditto what boneh3ad said. You could be a programmer if you took a few programming classes in school, but nobody’s going to hire you as a computer hardware engineer unless you had demonstrated skill in that area.
There are chemical engineers and material scientists/engineers who may be involved in process development and manufacturing of semiconductors and components used in computer hardware, but that’s probably as close as they get to computer hardware. Not really the same thing.
If you took a broad range of software and electronics classes in your undergrad, it wouldn’t be hard to switch to that field with a Computer Engineering Masters degree. A lot, perhaps 50% or more, is transferable between disciplines (ChemE has a lot of economics in its curriculum, more than average, which will do a lot of good for you in the workplace), but you need the specific engineering degree and/or years of relevant experience to work in the relevant field.
