My family has been pressuring me to apply to at least one Ivy League just to see if I could get in. I really like upenn but I'm afraid I would just be wasting my time and money applying. Here are my stats:

-ranked 4/405 (large public high school in northeast)
-weighted gpa 99.88/100 (I think it might actually be slightly higher because this was calculated before extra points were added for my honors and ap classes)
-SAT 2010 (just got this today, first take taking and will retake in June and maybe in the fall)
CR 690; M 610; W 710
-I take all honors and ap courses:
soph year AP World (5)
junior year AP US, Lang, and Calc AB
senior year probably AP Pysch, stats, and lit
-get all A's except for one B+ in calc first trimester that I have since brought up to an A
-will be taking math 1, us history, and lit subject tests in may
-3 year president of a cancer awareness club that I started after my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer (I already have a strong essay drafted about this); we've raised over $6000, held educational assemblies, and delivered care packages to chemo patients
-work at McDonald's about 30 hrs/wk (except just weekends during bball season)
-next year will make 4 years of basketball (I will be on varsity next year)
-will be working with public relations group at special Olympics in may
-will be interning with a breast cancer foundation this summer
-hoping to be accepted into girls state this June
-hoping to volunteer at local elementary/middle school next school year
-interested in communications/public relations

I know my SATs are low but if I can bring them to a 2100 do you think I'd have a chance at UPENN? What about BC or Georgetown?

Just wanted to add that my time leading my club has led me to consider pursuing a career in public relations for a nonprofit. My family income is low since my mom can’t work due to her illness (slightly less than $60000 a year for a family of 4). My sister is a current sophomore in college. I should have strong recommendation letters.

Yes, you are definitely an Ivy League contender!

Excellent first SAT score, I’d go for a second time around and try to bump it up 100-200 points.

Your SAT score is so good that you don’t need to go for the ACT, but it might help. You’re GPA is excellent and you’re extracirriculars are really great. It’s going to be your essay that will get you in.

UPenn might be a reach because it’s so competitive, but BC and Georgetown are definitely a go. Have you thought about Cornell? I just visited there and there are a few of the schools within Cornell that seem to fit your prospective major, and the school is definitely prestigious (Ivy League).

Cmon. You are smart enough to have a profile like THAT and you can’t answer this for yourself? You know damn well you’re a contender. Of course that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get in by any means, but you look just as good as anyone else does applying to college.

I think your a good contender. I just got in Berkeley yesterday, UCLA last week, and a service academy (merchant marine) a week before. I also went to California Boys’ State last year and I think one of the things that stood out on my application was my personal statement about leadership in Boys’ State. My test scores were TERRIBLE, but I got into these schools. I think you should continue looking to take on leadership opportunities as you have been and you’ll be set. I was a Mayor at Boys’ State, you should consider that or run for an even more “prestigious” role. Mayor, Lieutenant Governor, Political Party head and Governor I’d say will offer you the greatest leadership opportunities that you can address as you apply.

^ completely agreed, keep striving for leadership roles colleges love that,
Math me please
GPA: 3.72 W (4.6667 scale, 4.6667 being A+ and 4.3333 being A)
ACT:25
Strong extracurriculars considering I will apply to the business schools at the following:
Purdue
Penn state: university park (smeal)
Wisconsin- Madison
UCONN
James Madison
PITT

Thanks for the answers! @jobryan the reason I wasn’t sure if I was a contender was because looking through the threads on CC I felt like my score was way lower than a lot of other people.

K, I think if you practice and spend time studying for the SAT and ACT you can improve your scores and increase the chances you’ll get accepted. Show your passions in your essays and interviews. Ivies can award significant financial aid to families who qualify which seems to be your case. Good luck and keep up your incredible work!
