I'm a rising senior in high school and one of the schools that I'm interested in attending for college is UMass-Amherst. I play basketball for my high school, so I can definitely see basketball being a part of my college life. I have aspirations of going to the NBA, but only after I have finished all four years of college. I don't want to be like some basketball players who don't finish college and go straight to the NBA. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about my education and my future in basketball. Something that has crossed my mind is the option of getting a dual degree; like a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree. Yes, I know it sounds very difficult and is easier said than done, but I'd just like to know if it would be possible for me to get a dual degree in four years while balancing basketball and extensive schoolwork. I also know that if I were to do this, I would have to declare my major as early as possible so that I could jump right into the core classes that are necessary for my major. I'd also be willing to take summer classes, if that makes any difference. I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

Even without basketball, it will be difficult to get a Bachelor’s/Masters in 4 years. A Masters degree typically requires 30+ credits beyond a Bachelors. With 3 summers and A.P credits… maybe.

For some majors (engineering for example), I think it would be impossible because of the rigidity of the classes you have to take and when they get scheduled.

Throw in the demands of a Division I sports program… sounds like you won’t be sleeping much.

I think you should contact the department for the major you are interested in and ask about the feasibility. A lot depends on when/if the required classes would be offered during the summer semesters.
