Could I get a scholarship??

I'm interested in international relations and GW seems like a great school for it, but it's tuition is WAY too high and I think I could get into a better school that costs less, so the only reason I would apply is if I have a shot at a pretty good scholarship. Should I apply??

You definitely have a good shot at an academic scholarship, that's the same thing I'm counting on at GWU. Your SAT is very high for them and you seem like a great candidate.

Absolutely, you have a great shot at a scholarship. My son had very similar stats, GPA and EC's to yours (he had a few fewer EC's and a terrible essay, I might add). He didn't apply to GW honors, and he applied RD. They put him into the honors program, and he got a sizeable scholarship. Enough that GW ended up being less expensive than all the other schools he got into, except for in-state at our state institution (which he did not want to attend anyway).

So go for it, and best of luck. I'm sure you'll get good money. You may want to consider whether applying ED I or ED II, if that's what you were thinking, is wise, though, since I've felt for a while that applying ED is great for acceptances, but not necessarily so great for getting merit aid. But that's only a thought.

Oh, and one more thing - I forgot to mention that he decided after much arguing and angst, considering that he got into higher ranked schools (and yes, the arguing was on his parents' side), he decided on April 29th to go to GW. He's a sophomore now, and he absolutely loves it. He says the professors are fantastic, and he loves the energy there. Good luck.

Thanks for the response!!
