Could I get in / What are some things I could do to raise my chances? - UCLA

I’m currently a HS sophomore and I’m just wondering whether or not I’m on the right path and what somethings are that could raise my chances. I realize I’m pretty early and ACT/SAT scores are extremely important in assessing my chances but I’d rather be too early than too late.

So, I’m really hoping (praying) to get into UCLA (even though I’m not even sure I could afford it) and here’s what I’ve got:

Current Weighted GPA: 3.86
Currently Enrolled in: Algebra II Hnrs, AP Bio, Chem Hnrs, French III (full 7 period schedule all other classes are regular)
Last year completed: 1 Hnr (Geometry) and 1 AP (US History) and Principles of Engineering (counts as college credit not technically an AP.)

Extracurriculars:
Marching Band
Jazz Band
Concert Band

Next year I’m planning on joining the FTC Robotics club but they’ve already started their season for this year.

Forgot to mention, I’m out of state so I know that makes it tougher.

Unless you take the SAT, its tough to chance you. Being OOS makes it twice as hard. Try to challenge yourself for the next two years by taking mostly AP courses. Make sure your GPA stays above a 3.85 and your UC GPA above a 4.0 Good Luck!

UC GPA uses only 10-11th grades for a-g courses and up to 8 honors points for AP/IB or DE courses (capped weighted). No extra honors points for OOS honors courses. UCLA average UC GPA: 4.18 SAT score: 2064 ACT: 31
UCLA will also use uncapped weighted UC GPA.
