could i get in without having shown much interest?

i just decided a couple days ago that i would apply here. i can't visit because there's no time now.
here are my statistics:

760 cr 600 math 770 writing

3.77 uw GPA 3.95 w

white female from CT, prospective Classics major.

I go to a nationally recognized, highly competitive public school

EC's: church volunteering, NHS, tutoring peers, 2 year job at the GAP in my town, genealogy as a time intensive ongoing hobby

Interesting essay about my passion for genealogy

Letters from Latin teacher and AP Eng Lang teacher should be excellent

I actually am quite interested in the school, but I haven't shown it. Will my lack of "demonstrated" interest prevent me from getting in?

I doubt it would “prevent” you from getting in, but showing interest definitely helps. Why can’t you visit? It would take only one day.

Any thought of applying ED2?

i have a lot going on right now. i guess i could try to visit but DC’s a long car ride away and its expensive. i hadnt thought of applying ED2…i was considering applying ED2 at my top school.

Regular decisions are very unpredictable, and are getting more so every year- search for last year’s RD thread (end of March 2009) and you’ll see what I mean.

Tours or interviews are relatively meaningless.

GPA: Ok. Have you taken many APs and honors?
Test scores: Ok.
ECs: sound weak(er).

My guess is that you can still visit after you submitted your app considering they don’t start making decisions on regular admits until the deadline. Also if you are admitted, you will want to visit anyway so better to do it now than later when it can help you. Plus DC is such a great place to visit so not matter what it wont be a waste. Make a trip out of it

gwgrad: i think my test scores are pretty good for this school, considering 590-690 is the range. my english scores are pretty much in their 5th percentile, and i have a 2130. so i think they’re better than “okay” lol.
as for my GPA, i agree…i had a bad year as a freshman and without that averaged in my GPA would be a 3.9 uw. my poor grades were a result of moving from a poor school district to one of the best public schools in the country. i do explain this in the addition info section, and i believe my counselor mentioned it in my letter.
i’ve taken 6 honors classes and 4 AP’s, and i have taken two languages, Latin and Spanish, since sophomore year.
i agree my EC’s are weak :[ idk what to do about that…its too late, i guess. there are a few more i didnt mention, but nothing major.
also, as to your comment that “tours are meaningless,” i must beg to differ. the application asks you when you visited, etc, indicating that the school takes demonstrated interest into consideration. hence this thread.

Tours and interviews are not meaningless. Both show an interest and GW likes to keep their yield up. I have seen a poster in this forum who was admitted to Columbia but only waitlisted at GW. It was obvious that they were only using GW as a safe school.

Will you get in without them? You can, but if it comes down to between admitting you and another student, demonstrated interest will prevail.
