ECs—4 year basketball(2 year letter), 4 year cross country(1 year letter) at a 5A school with 2600+ students, National Merit Qualifier(waiting to see if it is commended scholar or semifinalist, probably just commended) NHS, maybe 60+ hrs community service, worked on and off for 2 years at baskin robbins and refereed youth basketball, aau nationals every summer, cerebrals society member (not sure if that even counts)

in my opinion your ECs are “special” (more special than mine believe me) and your SAT scores are great. but I’m sorry I can’t give you a good opinion. maybe someone else will

Detail like this please

the only difference i see is that he listed a few classes. I said i have low rigor schedule so i though that took care of that, oh and im white male

i dont have that many ECs i mean i could list insignificant stuff like AAU track (04-05) but does it really matter

Well, if you want to me judge you based on what you gave us I’d say that UCSD is a fence school for you.

If you’ve seen the other forums on here, you know SD has a point system andthat they add up points for you based on what is on your application. If you reach a certain point, you’re in. Since you’re an out of state student, its harder for you to get in. And with what you listed here, you’re ECs can make or break you.

You also said that you didnt list insignificant ECs since you didnt think it mattered. WRONG.
On your application, LIST EVERYTHING. The point system will reward you for the ECs you’ve done.

Google “UCSD point system” to see a general breakdown on a spread sheet.

Oh, and as to why we asked you to list everything out for us like the example I gave you:

1- It’ll show us everything you’ve done, received, etc so we can ACCURATELY give you an answer.

2- It’ll help you out when it comes to applications because it’ll give you an easy list to look at and see if you forgot something.

Leadership is weak, should i join clubs or what

Well at this point joining clubs would be pointless in a way but it wouldnt hurt your chances if you did.

Based on these ECs and all that, I’d say that you have a good shot at getting in. At this point its pretty much dependent on how everyone elses application looks (since they set the minimum points required for acceptance based on this). Good luck

I just saw that SAT IIs are required, should i take them or the ACT + W?

Its not an “or” situation. The SAT IIs take priority.

If you take them, take them in your best subjects.

UCSD doesnt like the ACT as much as SAT IIs? is SAT II lit the same as CR?

No, the ACT scores are only converted to an equivalent SAT-I score, SAT-II’s are a completely different set of tests that are also required, but of your choice of two best subjects, ie Lit, Bio, Chinese. but keep in mind that for math they only accept the harder of the two you can take

To put it in simple terms… the UCs pretty much could care less about the ACT. They’ll still take it, but dont hold it in high regards compared to the SAT I.

The SAT IIs are completely different from both these tests though. The SAT IIs pretty much just are tests based on one specific subject and you must have those to be considered for any UC

ya i misread it on the ucsd website i thought it said like take the ACT+writing OR take SAT+subject tests. I can’t pay for UCSD anyway probably because i hear they give bad oos aid

i wouldnt say “they dont hold it in high regards”, i dont think they could care less, they just convert it to a SAT scale and use that, so it doesnt make a difference between the two
